When Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were announced in February as a part of the franchise’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, fans were torn. Some were ecstatic that Sinnoh would finally be receiving the remake treatment, while others were underwhelmed by the game’s art style, graphical fidelity and re-used models.

Since the initial reveal, fans on both sides of the debate have been desperate to see more of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. A Pokémon Presents livestream on August 18 will finally provide another look at the remakes, as well as the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Here are five features that, if announced, could change the minds of naysayers and further excite those firmly aboard the hype train.

All 493 Pokémon

When Generation IV was released, it increased the total of available Pokémon to 493. As Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are described as faithful remakes, fans naturally expect to see each of these monsters in the game, but this is not yet confirmed. With Generation VIII leaving out so many older Pokémon, many are concerned not all of the monsters included in the original Diamond and Pearl’s code will be included this time around.

Confirming that all 493 creatures will be either catchable or transferable to the game via Pokémon Home would certainly put fan’s fears to rest, while giving fans another reason to buy the games. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl would become the only place where players could utilize all Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh Pokémon on Switch, which would be a great way to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Pokémon Platinum’s Regional Dex

Platinum is considered the definitive way to explore Sinnoh, improving upon many aspects of the original games. One of its most important changes is its regional Pokédex. Diamond & Pearl’s regional selection was sorely lacking in diversity. Many types had only a handful of options available before the postgame — the most infamous being the Fire-type, which only had Rapidash as an option if the player did not start with Chimchar.

While the remakes look to be following the original Diamond and Pearl rather closely, this is one area where the games should look to Platinum for inspiration. The reveal trailer does display some hints at Platinum content, so hopefully, fans will have more Fire-type options come November.

In-Game Encounters With Sinnoh’s Mythicals

The fourth generation introduced four (five if counting Phione) Mythical Pokémon. Rather than simply being given to the player as a gift, these Pokémon had their own side-quests that needed to be completed to encounter them. However, because these were locked behind special events and distributions, many players have never played them. Additionally, the Arceus event involving the Azure Flute was never officially distributed at all.

Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl should include these Mythical events in-game, allowing many players to experience them for the first time. This would provide a distinct benefit to playing the remakes over the originals and finally allow players to enter the Hall of Origin and battle Arceus the way Game Freak originally intended.

The Return of the Battle Frontier

Another element that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl should borrow from Platinum is the beloved Battle Frontier. This post-game facility features many difficult challenges for trainers to overcome with their strongest Pokémon, acting as the ultimate challenge for master trainers. The Battle Frontier was introduced in Emerald, with a new version appearing in Platinum and HeartGold and SoulSilver. However, it has remained conspicuously absent from the series since.

The Battle Frontier’s return would satiate many player’s desire for more difficult content, provide meaningful post-game activities and give the remakes their own unique draws. Many players still feel slighted by the feature’s exclusion from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, so reintroducing the Frontier Brains could right that wrong.

New Post-Game Content

One of the largest issues fans have had with recent Pokémon games is the lack of meaningful post-game content. The Battle Frontier would be an excellent solution, but extra post-game areas would also be a good thing. While it seems unlikely the series will ever see an entire region as a post-game area like in the Johto games, giving players new areas to explore, challenges to overcome and Pokémon to obtain after the credits roll will keep players invested for longer.

New additions to Sinnoh would go a long way in convincing fans who are on the fence that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the definitive way to experience the region. Some new islands in the same vein as the original’s Battle Zone would be excellent additions.
