Nintendo has confirmed that pre-orders for the upcoming Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will go live today, August 18. The games are full remakes of the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which first released on Nintendo DS in 2006. As well as revealing the open date for pre-orders, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have offered a deeper look at the game, highlighting its features and gameplay elements.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will return players to the Sinnoh region, recreating the main story along with a number of minigames seen in the original titles. Fans can expect to see Pokémon Super Contests, Pokéball customization, and the ability to build bases, which can be decorated with Pokémon statues. Team Galactic is once again the games’ antagonistic group, with familiar faces including Professor Rowan also making their return. The Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes feature all-new 3D graphics, replacing the pixels of the original DS titles.

During today’s Pokémon Presents livestream, The Pokémon Company confirmed that fans of the series will be able to secure their Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl digital pre-orders via the Nintendo eShop today, with the option coming following the end of the livestream. Nintendo has also revealed a new special edition Nintendo Switch Lite releasing to celebrate the games’ launch. The design features Dialga and Palkia on the back of the new grey console. Fans will be able to get the console ahead of the games’ release on November 5. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will launch on November 19.

Pre-ordering the games through the eShop means players will be able to download them at midnight on the day of their release, without having to wait to get stuck into the new adventures. However, those looking for a physical release can expect to see pre-orders bundled with additional game-related memorabilia in the coming days and weeks. This year marks the 25th-anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, making it a good year for merchandise collectors, and it’s likely that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company won’t miss out on bundling freebies and steelbooks with the physical versions of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl can be purchased individually or as part of a double pack release. The titles are mostly the same as each other, though certain Pokémon will be exclusive to each of the games. As in the original games, it’s believed that characters including Scizor will only be available in Diamond, while Pinsir will likely only be available in Pearl. Players not looking to purchase both games to complete their Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Pokédex should be able to do so by trading with others, though full Pokédex details have not yet been confirmed.
