Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have a ton of different ways to catch Pokemon, including the option to visit the game’s unique Safari Zone. This zone is called the Great Marsh and is home to all types of interesting Pokemon, including some that you won’t be able to catch anywhere else.

What is the Great Marsh and How do you Make the Most of it?

The Great Marsh can be found in Pastoria City and can be accessed from the moment you step into town. To use the Marsh, you will need to pay a small fee of 500 Pokedollars. Here’s what you need to know about the Great Marsh:

  • The Pokemon in the Great Marsh change each day.
  • You can check what Pokemon are currently in the Marsh by going up the stairs by the counter and paying 100 Pokedollars to use the binoculars
  • Your time in the Great Marsh is linked to your steps, you have 500 steps before your time ends.
  • There are items scattered around the great Marsh including the move for Fog.
  • You are given 30 Safari Balls at the beginning of each game.

You will want to use the trolley system to move around the marsh and get to the areas where the binoculars showed your desired Pokemon. When you encounter a Pokemon, you have a few options:

  • Throwing bait keeps Pokemon around and makes it harder to catch.
  • Throwing mud makes it easier to catch but quicker to flee.

It’s up to you to decide what your best course of action is, and if you encounter a Pokemon you don’t like, you can run away like normal.
