Dusclops and its pre-evolved form, Duskull, made their debut in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. It wasn’t until the following generation of Pokemon that the Duskull-line was given a third evolution: Dusknoir. With the absence of the Wild Area in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, trainers won’t be able to find Dusknoir wandering about on the field. Instead, they’ll need to get it the old-fashioned way.

Getting Dusknoir means evolving Duskull into Dusclops. From there, Dusclops needs to be traded to another player while it’s holding a special item. This item can only be found in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s postgame. Meaning if Duskull is caught early, it will be a while until trainers can help it reach its final evolution.

How to Find and Evolve Duskull

Duskull is a rare spawn in the Dazzling Cave or the Stargleam Cavern in the Grand Underground. Until trainers defeat the Elite Four, Duskull will only appear in the Dazzling Cave hideaway. The earliest Dazzling Cave hideaway can be found in the East Zone of the Grand Underground (i.e: Pastoria City, Veilstone City). If Duskull isn’t roaming around the hideaway, leave and enter the room again until it appears.

Once players become Pokemon Champion, they can find Duskull by using the PokeRadar on Route 224. The Duskulls on Route 224 will be level 23 and have a 2% chance of appearing.

Duskull will evolve into Dusclops once it reaches level 37. If Duskull is caught before the postgame or by PokeRadar, trainers can level it up by battling other Pokemon in the Grand Underground. If Duskull is caught in the Grand Underground after Candice has been defeated, Duskull should be over level 37. This means it only needs to grow one level to evolve.

Evolving Dusclops

The next step is to get the Reaper Cloth on Route 229. Another Reaper Cloth can be bought at the Battle Tower for 5BP if trainers want to have more than one Dusknoir.

After this, give Dusclops the Reaper Cloth. Then, enter the Global Club or Local Room at the nearest Pokemon Center to initiate a trade. Players can either trade with someone random, in a Group, or they can use a Link Code to trade with someone they know. It’s important that Dusclops is holding the Reaper Cloth. Without this special item, trading Dusclops won’t trigger the evolution.

More Information About Dusknoir

As a pure Ghost-type, Dusknoir is strong against Ghost and Psychic-types, but has a weakness to Ghost and Dark-type Pokemon. Dusknoir can’t be hit by Normal-type moves, but any of its Ghost-type moves won’t be able to inflict damage on Normal-type Pokemon, such as Eevee.

Dusknoir has a base stat total of 525 and has high Attack, Defense, and Special Defense.

The best nature for Dusknoir is Adamant (+Attk, -Sp. Attk) because of its meager Special Attack and solid Attack stats. Players can also try for a Jolly (+Spd, -Sp. Attk) Nature, but a boost in Dusknoir’s poor Speed may not be enough for it to outspeed its opponents.

Take Dusknoir to the Move Reminder in Pastoria City so it can “relearn” moves such as Thunder Punch and Ice Punch to give it more coverage in battle.
