Alakazam is a powerful Psychic-type Pokemon that was first introduced in the original Kanto region from Pokemon Red/Blue. It specializes in high special attack, special defense, and speed, making it a mighty contender for the right Pokemon team. For Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players that are looking for an Alakazam, here’s how to get one in the Sinnoh region.

How to Get Alakazam in Pokemon BDSP

Unfortunately, there is no way to find an Alakazam in the Wild in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. There’s a list of Pokemon that can only be obtained through trading, and Alakazam is one of those Pokemon. The only way to get one is through trading with a fellow BDSP player. Players should make sure that the person they trade with is trustworthy, as anyone can simply leave the trade once the Pokemon has been traded before giving the newly evolved Alakazam back to the original player. Before trading, though, players will need to first get their hands on a Kadabra (or Abra) and then work their way to evolving them.

How to Get Kadabra

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players can find a Kadabra in the wild at a few different locations. The first spot is Route 215, in which Kadabra has a 15% chance of appearing. The second spot is on the second floor of Victory Road (25% chance of random encounter). And the third spot is in the Grand Underground, in the Dazzling Cave and Stargleam Cavern biomes specifically.

How to Get Abra

If players would rather catch an Abra, evolve it to Kadabra, and then trade it to evolve it into Alakazam, Abra can be found on Route 203 (10 – 15% chance of encounter). It can also be located on Route 215, but with a slightly less chance than finding it than Kadabra. However, be careful when looking for Abra, as it can easily use Teleport at the start of the battle, causing it to flee. Players should try using a Poke Ball right at the beginning of the encounter (like a Quick Ball) or attempt to put it to sleep or paralyze it.

Once the Abra is caught, players can get it to level 16 by using Rare Candy or having it sit in the party to gain shared battle XP. Then, find a friend to trade with, give them the Kadabra, and watch as it transforms into an Alakazam.
