With Togepi being one of Misty’s Pokemon in the original anime series, the Metronome-using, Fairy-type Pokemon has been very popular for fans. The big draw for Togepi is that it can use a move called Metronome that allows it to randomly use pretty much any move that exists in Briliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. However, this move can backfire on the player, like if they were to get the move Explosion, which causes the user to faint while also heavily damaging the opponent.
This guide will go over where to find Togepi and its potential as a viable party member.
Where to Find Togepi in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Togepi can be found in two different places in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:
- Route 230
- Grand Underground
If players are looking for Togepi on Route 230, they will need to use the PokeRadar item first. This item is given to players by Professor Oak himself after players see all of the Sinnoh Pokemon there is to see. The professor will be waiting at Pal Park. This will only be possible for the players that have gotten pretty far through the story. With the PokeRader, there is a 12% chance for Togepi to appear.
As for the Grand Underground, players will need to travel until they reach either of these named areas: Fountainspring Cave, Dazzling Cave, and Stargleam Cavern. There are a bunch of other Pokemon that can appear at these places too, like Buizel at Fountainspring Cave.
There’s a chance that Togepi can appear here, too, but players will first need to collect the Explorer’s kit from the old man in Eterna City before they can access the Grand Underground new to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. His house is located directly to the right of Eterna City’s Pokemon Center. Players can only use the kit when they’re outdoors.

Togepi can evolve into Togetic by increasing its friendship levels to a certain point. Togetic can then evolve into Togekiss by using one of the evolutionary stones found in Sinnoh: the Shiny Stone. A Shiny Stone will be able to evolve Togetic into Togekiss regardless of its current level.
