A recent Facebook post from Nintendo of France implies that only the first four generations of Pokémon will be present in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. The remakes of the original DS games have drawn a lot of interest and ire from Pokémon fans, with many hoping to have seen a reimagining on the scale of Pokémon Sword and Shield. Despite the more chibi aesthetic of the games, there’s no question they’ll do gangbusters on Nintendo Switch this holiday season.
While the remakes are remaining true to their source material, they’re also building on several major features that appeared in the original Diamond and Pearl games. Two of the biggest aspects being revamped are Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s underground areas and contests, both of which are staples of the original fourth-generation entries in the series. Hopes were high that more finetuning would be applied to other areas of the games. Unfortunately, the National Pokédex may not be one of the improved aspects.
According to Nintendo of France on Facebook (via NintendoSmash), Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will feature Pocket Monsters from “up to Gen 4.” While this isn’t an outright denial of a National Pokédex, it does imply that creatures that appeared in Gen 5 and beyond will not be in the new games. Still, it could be considered a telling bit of information.
Nintendo did slyly confirm that Pokémon Platinum’s Pokédex would return in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. In that light, this supposed news isn’t all that surprising. Additionally, it’s possible that everything up to the 4th generation of Pokémon is what will be available to players until they clear the main game and unlock a National Pokédex. In truth, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have both been quiet about most of what awaits hopeful trainers in the Diamond and Pearl remakes. As a result, fans of the series are right to speculate on how the nostalgic romps will shape up.
Another major piece of the discussion stems from the possibility of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s legendary cover monsters Dialga and Palkia getting new forms. This would be an exciting development for devoted fans of the franchise as well as newcomers. Whether that’s the case or not, here’s hoping the beans are spilled about any updates sooner rather than later.
