The Pokémon Trading Card Game is getting a new expansion next month. The next set in the TCG is called Chilling Reign and will be based on the Crown Tundra DLC from Pokémon Sword & Shield. With over 190 new cards being added, there’s a lot for fans to be excited about. Here’s everything new confirmed for the Chilling Reign expansion so far.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game only recently released its last expansion, Battle Styles, earlier this year. While Battle Styles added in new mechanics like Rapid Strike and Single Strike cards, it was also based on the Isle of Armor DLC from Sword & Shield. The new Chilling Reign expansion will also include new Rapid Strike and Single Strike cards, as well as cards of dozens of Galarian Pokémon and species found in the Crown Tundra.
As expected since their introduction to the Pokémon TCG, many new V and VMAX cards will be added again this time around as well. The Chilling Reign expansion will feature fifteen new Pokémon V and eight new Pokémon VMAX cards, allowing players to relive the excitement of Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon in a tabletop setting. Of these, Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX and Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX have both been confirmed, showing Calyrex riding Glastrier for the Ice Rider card and Spectrier for the Shadow Rider one. The artwork revealed for these cards look fantastic, so fans of the TCG (and of the Legendaries) should be pretty happy.
New Cards Coming To Pokémon TCG’s Chilling Reign Expansion
Calyrex won’t be the only Legendary Pokémon being featured in the Chilling Reign expansion. The three Legendary Birds – Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos – will also be featured on cards in their Galarian forms in this next Pokémon card game expansion. The Chilling Reign expansion of the Pokémon card game will include more than just these new additions, however. Over 25 new Trainer cards, presumably featuring some of the Crown Tundra’s most recognizable faces, will also be added alongside three new Special Energy cards.
So far, this is what’s been confirmed for the next Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion. However, as Chilling Reign gets closer to its June release date, more cards should start to be shown off. This newest set seems to keep newer traditions, like V and VMAX cards and Rapid and Singe Strike cards, while also adding in more Galarian Pokémon and Legendaries for fans to enjoy in the card game.
