February 27 is a very special day for the Pokémon community – and the franchise as a whole.
The date marks the birth of Pokémon, when the first games came out in 1996. As such, the day is known to be National Pokémon Day. As expected, Game Freak hosts in-game events for current Pokémon games and rewards fans for their loyalty with various bonuses and prizes.
With this year’s National Pokémon Day a little bit less than a month away, the Pokémon Company has already announced what it has in store for this generation’s Pokémon games, Pokémon Sword & Shield. The information comes from the official Japanese website in which it states how a new Mythical Pokémon will be revealed and released for Pokémon Sword & Shield. Additionally, the new Pokémon will star in the upcoming, Pokémon The Movie: Coco, which is set to release in July.
The new update for Pokémon Sword & Shield isn’t the only thing being planned, however. On top of introducing a new Mythical Pokémon, there will be a special Max Raid Battle for Pokémon Sword & Shield that may potentially deal with the new Mythical Pokémon. If that happens to be the case, then players will have to team up and try to catch the Pokémon (which would make a lot of sense due to the Pokémon being Mythical.)
On the other hand, the Max Raid Battle may affect other Pokémon with a low appearance rate, thus increasing the rate for the event. Whether that could be general Pokémon or Gigantamax-ed Pokémon remains to be seen.
There will also be an event regarding Pokémon GO. Not much has been revealed about the event, though it’s safe to predict what can be expected on a big Pokémon holiday like National Pokémon Day. Finally, new information will be revealed for Pokémon Masters as well, so fans of that game can look forward to National Pokémon Day too.
Ultimately, any fan is eager to celebrate National Pokémon Day, and seeing how the future is lining up for the three mentioned games, there are sure to be plenty of surprises and special events.
