However, particularly eager fans can show their dedication in advance via a special Pokémon Dialga & Palkia Edition Nintendo Switch Lite modeled after two of the Legendaries featured prominently in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This special edition Nintendo Switch Lite is available for purchase now.
This isn’t the first time Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have received Palkia and Dialga-themed advertisements, but it may be one of the most successful. Special edition video game consoles can often gain value as collectors’ items, and the Pokemon franchise already has deep links to collector communities through its trading card game. Fans will have to hope that scalpers don’t snatch up all the Pokemon Dialga & Palkia Edition Nintendo Switch Lites before anyone else can find them.
The Pokemon Dialga & Palkia Edition Nintendo Switch Lite features cool silvery grey coloring over the body and detailed outlines of Palkia the Spatial Pokemon and Dialga the Temporal Pokemon on the back. These high-contrast designs look like ink drawings and use negative space very well. Palkia’s image is outlined in gold ink while Dialga’s image is traced in silver, which helps the impression that they are opposites. The pair of Legendaries are shown from the chest up, with their legs hidden, and facing away from each other.
While this may seem like a relatively simple and straightforward design, the Pokemon Dialga & Palkia Edition Nintendo Switch Lite model actually serves as a tribute to a past special Pokemon console design. When Pokemon Pearl and Diamond first came out, a Palkia and Dialga-themed Nintendo DS Lite was released to celebrate the release of Pokemon Gen 4. This special model of DS also featured a dark body and ink-style outlines of Palkia in gold and Dialga in silver. However, the pair were featured on the lid of the DS rather than the back.
