Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Switch Lite Special Edition Details

Ever since the announcement of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl earlier this year, Pokémon fans have had remakes of the beloved DS originals to look forward to. Since the first three generations of Pokémon games got remakes in the past, it only seemed natural that the next step was to do the same for the fourth generation as well. The August 2021 Pokémon Presents unveiled some new features for these titles, but it also revealed a new limited edition Nintendo Switch Lite promoting Diamond and Pearl.

The original versions of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl were released back on the Nintendo DS and were received positively by many fans. The Sinnoh region brought lots of unique new Pokémon like Garchomp and Lucario to the table, as well as fresh gameplay ideas. Having these games available on the Switch will be a treat, since there will be an opportunity for Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl to improve some aspects of the adventure. These games will likely encourage some nostalgic Pokémon fans to pick up a new console, which might be why Nintendo decided to announce a new Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Switch Lite.

Back in 2019, Pokémon Sword and Shield launched alongside the first special edition Pokémon Switch Lite, which was also released to promote its respective generation of games. Even Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee and Let’s Go Pikachu ended up getting special edition Switch consoles. It seems that Nintendo will be following a similar strategy with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, since the new console will also be a Switch Lite, this time with a Palkia and Dialga design on the back.

Diamond & Pearl: Nintendo Switch Lite Version Price

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Switch Lite Special Edition Details

This new console will retail for the same price as a standard Switch Lite ($199 USD) and will not come packaged with either version of the DS remakes, but it will be available before they release. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl are slated to release on November 19, and the new Switch Lite is scheduled to become available on November 5. The same thing happened with the aforementioned Pokémon Sword and Shield Switch Lite, as it was released a week before those games did. Perhaps this is Nintendo’s way of reducing the holiday clutter in stores so that acquiring one of these limited edition consoles is easier.

Diamond & Pearl’s Switch Lite Calls Back To The DS Lite

As stated in the Pokémon Presents, this new limited edition Switch Lite takes some notes from the much older limited edition DS Lite which were available alongside the original versions of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Both consoles feature a dark color scheme with Dialga and Palkia designs. The similarities are very noticeable when looking at them side by side, and it’s a great reference to the original special edition some fans might have missed out on. Hopefully, getting one’s hands on this new device will be a painless experience, but only time will tell for fans of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
