Pokémon Everything Misty Did After Leaving Ash In The Anime

Of all of Ash’s companions in Pokémon, the first ones have a special place in fans’ hearts. Misty was especially good since she complimented Ash’s brash personality with reality checks whenever it got him in trouble. Notably, the first time was when Ash borrowed her bike and destroyed it. This put Misty on Ash’s journey, swearing to stay with him until he paid her back for her bike.

Misty focused on training water-based Pokémon, while her family ran the Cerulean Gym. Her older sisters were the primary gym leaders, which allowed Misty to travel with Ash. She eventually had to return to run the gym when her sisters left for a world tour with their performing Pokémon. Misty didn’t remain idle, though.

10 She Ran Cerulean Gym

The reason Misty had to leave Ash’s side was that her sisters, leaders of the Cerulean Gym, were going on an around-the-world trip. They had long since given up making trainers earn their badges, preferring to use the gym for perming their water aerobics shows. Misty took over the gym and really made the effort to make trainers earn the Cascade Badge.

Misty was not a constant fixture at the gym, though. When Ash and his friends met a referee-in-training that had gotten a Cascade Badge for cleaning the Cerulean Gym’s pool, he mentioned that Misty hadn’t been there to battle him. Instead, one of her sisters was there.

9 She Said Goodbye To Her Togepi

In the original Pokémon series, Misty’s constant companion, and probably favorite Pokémon, was a Togepi. Sometimes, basic Pokémon choose not to evolve, but one of the constant traits of Pokémon is they evolve into their higher form. Togepi will evolve into Togetic.

When Misty’s Togepi evolved, it helped defend the Togepi Paradise. Afterward, Togetic wished to stay behind and become the champion of Togepi Paradise against threats like the one they just defeated. Their farewell is a real tearjerker, but perfect for teaching the young Pokémon trainers, especially Ash.

8 She Conquered Her Fear of Gyarados

When Misty was a baby, she crawled into the mouth of a Gyarados. This left her with a genuine fear of Gyarados that hindered her confidence in running the Cerulean Gym. Then she had to protect her own Gyarados during a battle.

When he was threatened by a Tentcruel’s Poison Sting Attack, Misty jumped in front and took the attack. When the Tentacruel next attempts to drown Misty, the Gyarados saves her, fending off the Tentacruel and its sadistic trainers. Not only does this create a bond between Misty and her Gyarados, it gives Misty confidence as a gym leader.

7 She Renovated Cerulean Gym

When the Cerulean Gym first showed up, it had been a little neglected by Misty’s sisters. After Misty took over, it transformed quite a bit. Of course, this could be a stylistic change in the design of the anime. Within the context of the story, Misty presided over some physical changes in the gym.

Aside from the obvious changes to the outside, like removing the Dewgong from the front of the building, there was a significant change to where battles take place. The floor could sink and flood for water-based battles. Misty demonstrated this when she battled Ash with her Gyarados.

Misty had battled Ash’s classmates Lana and Mallow in a two-on-one battle. Ash challenged Misty, mostly for old times’ sake. The two friends were the last battle, following Brock’s defeat of Kiawe. While it was a friendly battle, it was one of the most intense of the visit.

Misty used her Mega Evolution on her Gyarados and made use of a Hurricane attack on Pikachu. Ash and Pikachu used a special Z-Move, Gigavolt Havok, which overpowered the Mega Gyarados. Ash wins an important victory, demonstrating why he enjoys battling so much, breaking through attacks thought unbreakable.

As Misty and the Alolan students were ready to head back from Treasure Island, they discovered that Team Rocket was trying to steal the Mantine that took them to the island. Misty and the group of students band together to fight off the villains.

It’s Misty’s Mega Gyarados that delivers the final blow to Team Rocket’s Meowthbot. She commands it to bind the robot, which is tough enough to fend off even the group’s Z-Moves. The Mega Gyarados uses Hydroblast to deliver the final blow that sends Team Rocket blasting off again.

1 Helped Olivia Defeat Team Rocket.

In her final Sun & Moon appearance, Misty, Brock, Ash, and his classmates visit Akala Island to visit Island Kahuna Olivia. Team Rocket uses the opportunity to try once again to steal the group’s Pokémon. Olivia uses her Lycanroc to try and free the captured, and with Brock’s help, provides an attack that the Meowthbot can barely hold off. A distraction by Bewear makes the difference to defeat Team Rocket.

Afterward, during the fireworks ceremony on Melemele Island, Misty declares that she will continue training water Pokémon and make the Cerulean Gym the best in the world. She and Ash also agree to a challenge the next time that they meet. The next day, Brock and Misty return to Kanto, having had an unforgettable time in Alola.
