Pokemon Fan Makes Impressive Recreation of Rayquaza in Minecraft

Some players may find the fact that Minecraft only allows them to build with blocks as a limitation, but for pixel artists, this is nothing new. The entirety of pixel art is based on making images out of tiny squares, so Minecraft is the perfect medium to do it. Naturally, artists can combine multiple things that they like, something that Redditor bingosbangos did when they created this amazing pixel art of Rayquaza from Pokemon. The legendary Sky High Pokemon comes to life in this pixel art, wowing fans of both Minecraft and Pokemon alike.
Rayquaza was first introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, and served as the flagship Pokemon of Pokemon Emerald. Ever since then, he’s held a special spot in the hearts of fans as one of their favorite Pokemon, so it’s certainly no surprise to see this homage to him. What is surprising is the great level of detail that the player was able to put into this work despite the limitations of Minecraft.
As the video below starts, players see a very zoomed in look at Rayquaza. After placing the last few blocks, bingosbangos flies away to show the legendary Pokemon in all of its glory. Using a combination of various green, brown, and yellow blocks, players are even able to see a kind of texturing on Rayquaza. What makes this particularly interesting is that it uses something brand new added to the game with the first part of the Caves and Cliffs update to Minecraft: copper blocks.
Copper blocks can be crafted with just nine copper ingots, but at first they will display their reddish brown color. After enough time, the copper blocks will start to oxidize, eventually turning to a shade of green. This metallic green color was perfect for Rayquaza, and really helped to make the art come to life. In response to implications that the build might have been faked using some kind of map art software, bingosbangos actually posted a work in progress image as well, showing Rayquaza half complete on their Nintendo Switch.
It seems fitting that Rayquaza was build on the Switch version of Minecraft, as bingosbangos is clearly a fan of Nintendo. All in all, other players seem very impressed by the build, especially given that it was made on console by hand. The title of the post asks for suggestions for what bingosbangos should build next, prompting others to share their favorite Pokemon. If bingosbongos happens to be reading, shiny Gyarados is the obvious pick.
