After many years of waiting for Generation 4 remakes, many fans were happy to finally get their hands on Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl this year. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl include several new features and faithfully portray many of the iconic original Pokemon, albeit in a new 3D visual style. Among the Pokemon available in the Sinnoh Pokedex there are plenty of great picks for all players, even though one of the most renowned remains Wooper’s evolution line.

The Pokemon was introduced all the way back in Pokemon Gold and Silver, and it was the first to ever come with both Water and Ground as its types, together with its evolution, Quagsire. Wooper became a meme of sorts due to its axolotl-like look combined with a goofy expression and the fact that it’s unaware of its surroundings, something that carries over to its evolution as well. Despite its low stats, Quagsire has since been a decent competitive pick thanks to its abilities, like Water Absorb and Unaware, which Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players can take advantage of.

A Reddit user by the name of DiscoAlienQueen shared a picture of their sister’s Pokemon-themed Christmas tree for this year, which features plenty of Quagsire plushes both on the tree and under its branches. There are also a single Wooper and a crochet Metagross in the mix, but the dedication to Quagsire is what makes the tree so special. According to the Redditor, Quagsire is their sister’s favorite Pokemon ever, and also that of her fiancee.

Other Redditors were happy to see such a beautiful and unique Christmas tree, and another fan saw it as the perfect occasion to share a link to a video from 2019, which got over 5.5 million views. The video is called “acquire the sire,” and it builds upon the memes involving Wooper and Quagsire that Pokemon fans have been spreading over the years, and it’s hilarious to watch.

Quagsire’s popularity as a competitive Pokemon started to dwindle with more Water/Ground-type critters being introduced in newer games. Still, it’s not impossible that the seemingly dull-witted Pokemon will make an appearance in other branches of the franchise, especially considering Pokemon Unite is now adding Dragonite soon after it added Tsareena. In fact, the game is constantly improving its roster of Pokemon, making Quagsire a possible addition further down the line.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
