As one of the more anticipated arcade games of the year, the Japan-only Pokken Tournament has fans of both the fighting game genre and Pokemon franchise anxiously awaiting the chance to get their hands on it. Oddly enough, Nintendo has opted to keep the game in the land of the rising sun for the time being, which has lead to many North American fans voicing their interest in seeing the title make its way overseas.

While neither Nintendo or Bandai Namco have committed to releasing Pokken Tournament in North America in any form, Dave & Buster’s Senior Vice President of Entertainment & Game Strategy Kevin Bachus has confirmed that the arcade for adults will be doing tests for the game in the very near future.

During a recent AMA on Reddit, Bachus confirmed that Dave & Buster’s has reached a deal with Namco to bring the once Japan-only fight title to North America. While the trial run will determine if more machines will be sent off to a number of other D&B establishments, the VP seems rather optimistic about the impending deal.

“Yes. We will be testing Pokken. Candidly both NAMCO and I are more optimistic about that title and our typical guests than Tekken.”

Not wanting to leave any lingering doubt amongst hopeful fans, Bachus confirmed in a reply that “if it does well in test we’d bring it everywhere.” Given how anticipated the game is at this point, it seems likely that fans will be given the chance to try out Pokken Tournament at their nearest Dave & Buster’s in due time. Still, Bachus failed to give gamers a timeframe in which they could expect to see the game make its debut.

Considering that the Pokemon fight title has already launched in Japanese arcades, it was inevitable before the game eventually made its way to North America. With a roster comprised of some of the most popular Pocket Monster around, with the likes of Charizard and Weavile being two of the latest added to the nine character roster, it sounds like the entire ordeal is more of a test to see if Pokken Tournament is worth bringing to consoles – let alone consumers outside of Japan.

Given the control scheme featured at arcades, a Wii U port seems very likely. This could, of course, impact Dave & Buster’s decision to carry the fighting game if that truly is Nintendo’s plan, but only time will tell what awaits fans. In the meantime, stay tuned to Game Rant for more information on the forthcoming Pokemon fighting game.
