Pokémon GO Adding Shiny Corsola & Okinawan Shirt Pikachu

Pokémon GO fans are in luck as it’s been revealed that one of the game’s most beloved pocket monsters, Corsola, is getting a Shiny variant, along with an Okinawa Shirt Pikachu. As well as being a fan-favorite amongst gamers, Corsola is also one of the mobile game’s rarest Pokémon. The Water/Rock-type Pokémon was first introduced into the franchise’s canon in Generation II, before making its way to Niantic’s Pokémon GO in 2017. Catching Corsola in Pokémon GO can be tricky thanks to its region-specific spawns, with it only being available in tropical areas of the world.

Corsola is just one of many Pokémon in the game which are region-specific. A number of countries and areas across the globe have Pokémon which can only be caught there, including Farfetch’d (available in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong), and Tropius (found in Africa and the Middle East). While Pokémon GO’s Corsola is a rare enough catch on its own, its upcoming Shiny variant is sure to be in even higher demand.

The news of Shiny Corsola comes directly from the game’s developer, Niantic. In a blog post on PokemonGoLive (via TheGamer), the company revealed the new Shiny Pokémon variant – and confirmed how players can add it to their Pokédex. According to the developer, Shiny Corsola is one of two upcoming special edition Pokémon, introduced for the Air Adventures promotion in collaboration with flight company Skymark. The Japanese event aims to create memorable travel experiences, giving players the chance to catch both a Shiny Corsola and an Okinawa Shirt Pikachu. Both of the new additions will be available from July 22, with a chance for a Shiny Corsola to appear in any regions its regular form can be found. Okinawa Shirt Pikachu will be available from the same date, but can only be caught in Okinawa, Japan, making this Pikachu one of the rarest in the game. While Shiny Corsola will be available permanently, Okinawa Shirt Pikachu will only be available for a vague timeframe of “over a year.”

Okinawa Shirt Pikachu may be confined to Japan, but Niantic has confirmed that more exclusive clothed variants of Pokémon will be coming to other regions in the future. If getting Okinawa Shirt Pikachu is a little out of reach, the Pikachu Libre Costume coming to Pokémon GO might just be enough to keep trainers happy. As for Corsola and its Shiny counterpart, players will be able to hunt down the Pokémon in any regions it’s currently available, meaning Florida, Australia (Northern border), Mexico and the Caribbean. While some trainers might be disappointed to hear just how rare these two special additions may be, they’re sure to be a real treat for any Pokémon GO players lucky enough to cross paths with them.

Along with the Air Adventures promotion, Pokémon GO players are eagerly awaiting the Bidoof Breakout event, coming June 25. The limited-time event will give players the chance to catch a Bidoof with an increased spawn rate, along with the opportunity to grab a Shiny variant, which will still be possible after the promotion ends on July 1. There’s lots happening in the game right now, and with new Pokémon GO events, promotions and Shiny additions announced fairly regularly, it’s safe to say that trainers won’t be letting go of the game anytime soon.
