Not too long ago, a datamine of Pokemon GO’s game code determined that the developer Niantic is set to include a brand new item called a Team Medallion to the augmented mobile reality game, with the object offering players the chance to change teams. Today, Niantic has officially declared this to be the case, with the company set to include the Team Change feature for players to experience next week.

According to Niantic, Pokemon GO’s Team Medallion will make its way into the ARG starting at 1:00 p.m. PST on February 26, 2019, and it will be obtainable through the in-game shop for the sum total of 1,000 PokeCoins. In order to avoid any issues of players potentially switching from Team Instinct to Team Valor to Team Mystic and back again on constant basis, the developer declared that a Team Medallion can only be purchased once every 365 days.

Once Pokemon GO players purchase the Team Medallion, they will be able to find it within their Bag. Once the Team Change item becomes activated, the game will guide them through the team-selection screens to their next team choice.

Additionally, any players’ Pokemon that are in Pokemon GO’s Gyms upon changing teams will be returned with no PokeCoins earned once it’s defeated. It’s also worth noting that since players won’t be able to battle their own Pokemon, going to a Gym that has one’s Pokemon defending it will return that creature to the player with no PokeCoins earned.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see just how many Pokemon GO players wind up utilizing the Team Change feature once it goes live in the game next week and what the team numbers are after it’s introduced. With the feature having been requested for quite a while, and with the majority of long-time players having initially picked their team without totally knowing how it would affect the rest of the gameplay, giving them the chance to choose again now that Gyms and Raids are more fully fleshed out ought to bode well with the community as a whole.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS devices.
