Pokémon GO fans will soon be able to start adding new companions to their Pokédex as the game is set to add its first set of Galar region monsters.
The Niantic mobile game will see brand new Pokémon from the most recent region of Galar added on Aug. 20, reported Siliconera. While the game previously introduced a few Galarian variants of the monsters already in the game, such as Weezing, the upcoming update will add wholly unique Generation Eight Pokémon. The list of known newcomers included the likes of Falinks, Skwovet and Wooloo, in addition to the two legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta.
Methods of obtaining each new creature will vary. Average Pokémon such as Wooloo will be encountered through roaming for wild monsters, as well as through research tasks. They will operate in much the same way as existing Pokémon, with their evolutions being accessed via feeding them enough of the corresponding candies. Falinks was also singled out to be encountered in raids set between Aug. 20 and Sept. 1.
As for the Galarian variants that are already in the game, players can expect them to start appearing more frequently. This will also include an increased chance of them hatching from eggs, with the 7km eggs being where they are most prominent. The eggs will include the likes of Darumaka, Farfetch’d, Meowth, Ponyta, Slowpoke, Stunfisk and Zigzagoon. Raids will also see more regular inclusions of Meowth, Stunfish and Weezing between August and September.
The two legendary dog Pokémon will be exclusively available through raids. Timing will be essential when pursuing Galar’s protectors. The raid Heroes of Many Battles Zacian is scheduled for 6pm local time on Aug. 25, while the Zamazenta variant is set for 6pm on Aug. 30. All of this was teased with a video trailer, and players can expect the update to include further goodies such as customization items for player avatars.
Pokémon GO recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, continuing a trend of increasing success. The game generated a revenue of of over $5 billion during that time, even managing to adapt to the pandemic to maintain its popularity, and has steadily released more generations of Pokémon since the original 151. The latest update, set to introduce the eighth generation, will be bringing over Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield, which was released on the Nintendo Switch in November 2019.
