Niantic has finally brought Galarian Ponyta and Sirfetch’d to Pokemon GO. Nearly a day after an ominous tweet featuring a sole leek, players suddenly began to find Galarian Farfetch’d in the wild, along with several other surprising additions.

Earlier this week, Niantic took to Twitter and began teasing the arrival of several new Galarian features. First, Pokemon GO players saw the cryptic leek tweet, and then, Professor Willow began to share his amateur photos of a mysterious, colorful, Pokemon. We now know that these two hints definitively referred to Galarian Farfetch’d and Galarian Ponyta.

Galarian Farfetch’d, as many players may have noticed, is now appearing frequently in the wild. This began October 22nd, at 6 PM (PDT), and will continue until October 23rd, 6 PM (PDT). In celebration of the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC, Trainers will not only be able to capture and evolve Galarian Farfetch’d, but also be able to challenge Galarian Ponyta in Raid Battles. While the event only lasts until 6 PM (PDT) today, players are encouraged to gather as many Farfetch’d and Ponyta as possible, as they’ll remain evolvable, and become available from 7 km Eggs, once the event concludes.

Galarian Farfetch’d seems to introduce a new evolution method to Pokemon GO, and tasks players with landing Excellent Throws on Pokemon while Farfetch’d is selected as their buddy. Only then does a player unlock the option to evolve Galarian Farfetch’d. Galarian Ponyta evolves in traditional Pokemon GO fashion, though, which simply means players will need 50 Ponyta Candies to make it happen.

This Crown Tundra event also introduces several new cosmetic options to the game, all inspired by clothing from the aforementioned Sword and Shield DLC pack. These items will be free of charge, and can be found and equipped in each player’s Style Shop.

Given the incoming series of Halloween and Ghost-themed events approaching Pokemon GO, players should take advantage of this event’s quick turnover. It only lasts a day, but that should be more than enough time to stock up on Farfetch’d and Ponyta Candies for future evolution, and get back to prepping for all the arriving Dark and Ghost-types. Powerful Legends like Darkrai will be resurfacing soon, along with spooky new variations of two notorious mischief-makers, Sableye and Gengar. Between these surprise Galarian migrations, the expected Halloween-themed favorites, and usual Candy and XP bonuses, Niantic is clearly aiming for a momentous finale to 2020.

Pokemon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
