Pokemon GO Adds Johto Region Raid Bosses

With Pokemon GO’s Johto Festival celebration in full swing, players of Niantic’s wildly popular mobile augmented reality title now have a chance to nab some rare Pokemon as rewards to limited time Field Research tasks. What’s more is that the development team behind PoGO have also decided to commemorate the in-game event by adding a handful of different creatures from the Johto region as raid bosses.

As seen below in the image courtesy of Pokemon GO Hub, the Johto Festival has altered the game’s different tiers of raid bosses by introducing the Gen 2 starters Yanma and Sunkern into Tier 1, Pineco into Tier 2, and Ursaring into Tier 4. Interestinly enough, all of the Gen 4 pre-evolutions are also available from raids as well, with this potentially being a hint toward the addition of Gen 4 Pocket Monsters in the ARG.

Pokemon GO’s raid boss shakeup with the aforementioned Gen 2 creatures isn’t the only way that Niantic is supporting the Johto Festival, as the game developer also decided to add three new Shiny variations of Natu, Pineco, and Sunkern. With this being the case, trainers should be able to continue completing their collection and effectively “catch ’em all” – including the variant versions – if they remain diligent enough and stay on the prowl for the Shinies.

All things considered, while the Johto Festival’s refreshed raid bosses and introduction of new Shinies should please many Pokemon GO fans, it’s safe to say that the main attraction for most players is the opportunity to catch the Mythical Pokemon Celebi. For those unaware, the Special Research quest “A Ripple in Time” went live yesterday, and trainers can now begin the hunt. That said, though, should there be those out there requiring assistance when it comes to acquring Celebi, make sure to check out our guide on how to catch the creature to get the deed done.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS.
