Pokemon GO August Community Day: Making a Splash Special Research Tasks and Rewards

Pokemon GO’s Community Day for August has finally begun with special research tasks available for those who purchased a Making a Splash ticket.

Players can now participate in Pokemon GO’s August Community Day starring Magikarp. This event will last from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm in players’ local times on August 8th, 2020.

By going into Pokemon GO’s in-game shop, players can purchase the Making a Splash Ticket for $0.99 USD. This ticket will give players access to Special Research Tasks that can only be completed while the August Community Day is active.

Many of these tasks require players to catch many of the Magikarp that will spawn during this event. Thanks to their increased spawn rate, catching them will be easy, especially if players are using an incense.

There are three different levels of Special Research Tasks as well as a fourth bonus level that will award players with special rewards without needing to do any tasks.

Part 1

• Power Up Pokemon 10 Times – 10 PokeBalls
• Catch 15 Magikarp – 20 Magikarp Candy
• Make 5 Nice Throws – Magikarp Encounter

Completing the first part of the tasks will award players with 2000 Stardust, 10 Pinap Berries, and a Magikarp encounter.

Part 2

• Catch 15 Magikarp – 50 Magikarp Candy
• Transfer 10 Pokemon – 500 Stardust
• Use 15 Pinap Berries while Catching Pokemon – 1000 XP

Completing the second part of the special research tasks will get players 2000 XP, 1 Incense, and 1 Poffin.

Part 3

• Make 3 Great Curveball Throws – 50 Magikarp Candy
• Evolve a Magikarp – 5 Golden Razz Berries
• Transfer 10 Pokemon – 1500 XP

Completing the final set of tasks will award players with 2000 Stardust, 1 Incense, and 1 Rocket Radar.

Part 4

• No Task – 5000 Stardust
• No Task – 1500 XP
• No Task – Silver Pinap Berries

After claiming this bonus rewards, players will be able to claim 2000 stardust, 3 rare candies, and a Gyarados encounter.

Many of these tasks will prove to be easy enough, but getting enough candies to evolve a Magikarp into Gyarados can take a lot of time, with it costing 400 Magikarp candies. Thanks to the amount of Magikarp that spawn during the event however, this will take much less time than usual.

One of the biggest appeals to this Community Day is the increased spawn rates for shiny Magikarp. These Magikarp can be evolved into shiny Gyarados which will be bright red in color in a similar palette to a normal Magikarp’s. When completing the Special Research Task for evolving a Magikarp, it is recommended to evolve a shiny Magikarp due to the amount of resources required to evolve it.

Once again, players will only have until the Community Day’s end, which is 5:00 pm in players’ local times, to complete the Special Research Tasks. Players don’t need to buy the Making a Splash Ticket in order to benefit from the increased spawn rates for Magikarp.
