Pokémon GO players are now guaranteed a Rufflet encounter if they can make it to rank eight by the end of the new Battle League season.
A little before the COVID-19 outbreak, Niantic started to roll out one of Pokémon GO’s most-anticipated features to its players — Battle League. This gave users the ability to face trainers and their Pokémon from all over the world. The system pairs trainers up randomly, depending on their respective rank, and the league is split into three sections.
Those three sections are the Great League, Ultra League, and Master League. This week, after a slight delay, season two of Battle League has kicked off with the Great League. The only rule in the Great League is that trainers can only use Pokémon with a CP of 1500 or lower. As with Season one, there are plenty of rewards up for grabs.
Those rewards get bigger and better as trainers ascend up the ranks, and although some are the same as season one, others have been switched around. That includes the reward for reaching rank eight, for example, which is easier said than done. This season, all trainers who make it to that rank will be guaranteed to earn an encounter with Rufflet. The encounter should begin after receiving the “rank rewards” that move a trainer from seven to eight.
As was the case in season one, Pokémon encounters can be earned between ranks, too. For example, winning three battles out of five, or two if using a Premium Battle Pass earns a unique encounter. The Pokémon encountered at these points are restricted to a small group, but none are guaranteed. When at rank eight, those encounters could be with any from this group: Lapras, Litwick, Deino, Shieldon, Larvitar.
Trainers have until Monday, July 13, 2020, to make it to rank eight and earn that Rufflet encounter, at which point season two will become season three. Unless the start of season three is delayed, of course, in which case trainers will have a little extra time to try and catch that Rufflet. The Great League has begun and will run until June 1. The Ultra League will then be active until June 22, and the Master League from then until July 6. After that, all three leagues and the new Premier Cup will be open for a week.
