Pokemon GO Best Jessie and James Counters

Pokemon GO has been taken over by Team GO Rocket once again and trainers are busy trying to defend against the invasion and complete this week’s Free Battle-themed Challenge, as well. Unlike the usual Pokestop takeovers, this time Team GO Rocket Grunts and Bosses are floating over the map in hot air balloons. Fans of the Pokemon franchise will be very excited to learn that one of the hot air balloons features a pair of iconinc baddies.

Trainers will want to keep a special eye out for a Meowth-shaped hot air ballon. It should definitely stand out from the other Rocket balloons that are floating around the map this week. Players who manage to find and click on the Meowth-shaped balloon will earn a back-to-back encounter with none other than the iconic Team Rocket duo: Jessie and James. This pair of Team Rocket thugs are pretty famous thanks to the Pokemon anime and many fans have been requesting their addition to Pokemon GO for years.

Surprisingly, Jessie and James don’t actually pack a very mean punch. They have some cool Pokemon, but none of them are evolved and any player who takes some time to think through the matchup should be able to pretty easily string together a lineup with counters to make the fight pretty doable. Here’s how things should play out…

James’ Lineup

Koffing, Sneasel, Beldum

Best Counters

An interesting component to this fight is that trainers have to battle the pair back-to-back. That means that fighters will want to have a couple of powerful lineups of counters prepared that can handle both enemies. Not to worry though, there’s a pretty easy strategy evolving that only requires a few Pokemon that most trainers will already have in their collection by this point anyway.

First, trainers want to toss in Rhyperion equipped with Smack Down and Rock Wrecker. Ideally, players should be able to crush through through Ekans with Smack Down and then potentially one-shot Scyther and Bagon with a few well-timed Rock Wreckers. If players don’t have a Rhyperion (or the resources to invest in one), then it would be a good time to bust out a Tyranitar with the Community Day moveset and apply the same strategy.

When it’s time for James to make an apperance, trainers should use Lucario equipped with Power Up Punches and Shadow Ball. A strong enough Lucario should be fine for taking down all three of the enemies if trainers play their cards right. Keep in mind that Sneasel should collapse to fighting moves and Beldum doesn’t really pose much of a threat at all.

Rewards

Now for the exciting part. Defeating the duo rewards players with 500 Stardust, a Rocket Radar Component, and encounters with Ekans and Koffing. Both Ekans and Koffing have the chance to be a shiny encounter, as well, which is the real motivation to take advantage of this fight.

As trainers continue working through all of these amazing events, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal.
