The Lake Trio have officially arrived in Pokemon GO, which means that players around the world are out battling in raids and trying to secure their region’s available piece of the legendary group. Now that Niantic explained how the Lake Trio appearances work, the community has a better idea about which creature they’ll be able to encounter in their own region. Although the majority of our readers may be facing off against Azelf right now (here’s a guide to Azelf counters), we still want to explain how the other two fights will go down, as well.
Mesprit is appearing in Europe, the Middle East, India, and Africa and players in those regions have some solid options to take down and capture the Gen 4 legendary creatures. Most of its counters have been popular choices for prior Battle Raids, so hopefully a lot of trainers have already dedicated the appropriate resources into leveling up a roster that is perfect for this battle.
Mesprit is a Psychic-type, which means that Dark, Bug, and Ghost-types are going to be the most effective for this Battle Raid. It’s boosted by Windy weather, so that will make for some tough fights, but a chance to catch an even more powerful one if you succeed.
Top Tier
Gengar – Shadow Claw or Lick are ideal, but Hex will still do. Shadow Ball
Giratina (Origin) – Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball
Mewtwo – Psycho Cut, Shadow Ball (Legacy move)
Second Tier
Tyranitar – Bite, Crunch
Weavile – Feint Attack, Foul Play
Absol – Snarl, Dark Pulse
Third Tier
Houndoom – Snarl, Foul Play
Pinsir – Bug Bite, X-Scissor
Sharpedo – Bite, Crunch
There are plenty of other reliable options at the third tier, but we’ve just highlighted the ones that players like already have ready to go. Alakazam, Mismagius, and Scizor would also all be solid choices for this fight.
At this point, there does not seem to be any plans to rotate the Lake Trio out of their current regions.
