The majestic Xerneas stands as an opposite to the mighty Yveltal, representing life to Yveltal’s death. Xerneas severed as the game mascot to 2013’s Pokemon X and was the first legendary with the new Fairy Type introduced in Generation VI.

While Xerneas can be a powerful Pokemon in the main games, some players may struggle to use it in Pokemon GO. On one hand, Xerneas has a max CP of 3,781 (level 40) and only has two weaknesses: Poison and Steel. On the other, it doesn’t have many good Quick Moves. Despite this, there are a few Pokemon GO movesets to equip Xerneas with in order to bring out its full potential.

Catching Xerneas

On May 4, 2021, Pokemon GO initiated Luminous Legends X, which starred Xerneas. In addition, some Fairy and Dragon Types were added to the mix such as Swirlix, Spritzee, and Goomy.

Xerneas, like other Legendary Pokemon, could be caught during five-star raids. The best way to counter the Life Pokemon is by using powerful Steel and Poison Types such as Metagross or Mega Gengar. Equipping them with the Steel Type Pokemon move Bullet Punch and Poison Type Sludge Bomb respectively will give players the Type Advantage. Other Pokemon to counter Xerneas are Dialga, Roserade, or regular Gengar.

However, the damage and DPS output will be lower if using Tackle + Charged Move over Zen Headbutt + Charged Move. While it’s wiser to rely on Tackle for Quick Moves, a defensive Pokemon GO moveset for Xerneas will work better with Zen Headbutt.

Any of the following movesets can make Xerneas effective in PVP and Gyms. Ultimately, it is up to the player to decide which of the listed sets work the best for them.
