While The Pokemon Company is currently putting together a new mobile game, the development team at Niantic is still hard at work delivering fresh content to the wildly successful mobile augmented reality title, Pokemon GO. As it so happens, the studio behind PoGO is ramping up production in preparation for a forthcoming unannounced event, and it has now promised to bring back the Ice and Flying-type, Delibird, for the occasion.

Niantic has yet to explicitly confirm that a winter event is on the way, but with Delibird’s arrival during the 2018 holiday season now locked in, it’s safe to presume that a Christmas celebration is coming to Pokemon GO soon. For those unaware, the Ice and Flying-type’s signature move is “Present”, which allows it to carry special items in its tail, so players should expect Delibird’s arrival to come bearing gifts in some shape or form.

During last year’s Christmas extravaganza in Pokemon GO, Niantic offered up loads of different gifts for Trainers, including 20 new Gen 3 Water and Ice-types, the highly coveted Santa Hat Pikachu, and a free single use incubator every day for four days in a row when spinning a stop. What’s more is that the developer provided two special box sales, with special boxes including Super Incubators, Lure Modules, and the then-new Star Pieces. Plus there were special boxes with items such as Premium Raid Passes, Super Incubators, and Star Pieces.

Taking all of this into consideration, while Niantic’s confirmation of Delibird’s eventual arrival in Pokemon GO during winter 2018 isn’t necessarily an exact indicator of this year’s Christmas event for the game, it’s definitely a hint of what’s to come. The winter event for 2017 went live a few days before Christmas day–December 21, to be precise–so there’s a good chance that Niantic will hold this year’s holiday celebration around then as well.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS.
