Pokemon GO Bringing Darkrai Back to 5Star Raids

Niantic has revealed the extent of its latest Pokemon GO event in a new announcement. Players will be treated to a selection of spooky Ghost and Dark-type Pokemon, new in-game events and bonuses, and the return of Darkrai to five-star Raids.

Pokemon GO will celebrate the introduction of Pokemon like Galarian Yamask during this Halloween event, but more competitive players should have their sights set on one powerful Dark-type’s inclusion. The Mythical Darkrai may look like a spirit, but it is in fact a pure Dark-type Pokemon, making it effective against Psychic-types, among other things.

Darkrai will be returning to Legendary five-star Raid Battles throughout the duration of the event, which lasts from October 23 until November 3, 2020 at 6 p.m. PDT. The Mythical Pokemon can be encountered in its shiny form, which should be exciting for most players, especially considering the guaranteed 100 percent catch rate.

Players who take on the powerful Dark-type should take advantage of heavy-hitting Fighting or Fairy-types, like Machamp, Lucario, or Togekiss, though recent additions like Mega Beedrill would also fare well. This Pokemon boasts impressive Attack and HP/Defense stats, so casual players will want to challenge it with four or five other Trainers, minimum. That said, it uses mostly Dark-type attacks (and the occasional Fighting or Ghost-type), so Pokemon Trainers using Fighting or Fairy-types should excel.

Aside from Darkrai, players can also expect the introduction of several new Pokemon, and various event bonuses. A new costumed form of Gengar and Sableye will be joining the costumed Pokemon in Pokemon GO, while Galarian Yamask and shiny Spiritomb will be making their debuts. Players can also participate in the GO Battle League Halloween Cup for a chance to catch a Halloween-themed Kanto Starter, and both Alolan Marowak and Drifloon will be receiving their very own special event days.

Broadly speaking, Niantic has confirmed increased Ghost-type Pokemon spawns, and the presence of Ghost-types in eggs, as well as Halloween-themed Field Research tasks and Avatar Items. Pokemon Trainers will also receive an opportunity to earn some Mega Gengar candies in anticipation of the powerful Ghost/Poison fan-favorite’s introduction to Pokemon GO, and new seasonally appropriate friends will be photobombing the occasional snapshot. Players will also be able to take advantage of double transfer and catch candy throughout the entire Halloween 2020 event.

Between the different sets of new Pokemon, the increased spooky spawns, and the double catch and transfer candy, trainers should have a solid month of Ghost and Dark Pokemon collecting. If players take advantage of their Pinap resources, they can be more than stocked for a winter of powering up their Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
