Pokemon GO developer Niantic has offered players of its mobile ARG several events in March, with the forthcoming Lotad Limited Research Day set to cap off the month. As we move into April, its Community Day event has recently been confirmed to feature the Dragon-type Bagon and take place on April 13, but now we know that a Bug-themed event will take place beforehand.

Dubbed the Bug Out! event, it is set to last one week and come with a variety of bonuses. Among these, we are expecting to perhaps see a new shiny bug Pokemon join the fore, but because of the increased spawns of the event, Pokemon GO players can be on the lookout for shiny bug Pokemon that are already in the game, namely Caterpie, Pinsir, and Pineco. At the time of writing, any new shiny Pokemon are currently unconfirmed.

This event will likely be similar to the recent Grass-focused Equinox event. So, players can make plans accordingly to participate in this new Pokemon GO event that begins shortly after Lotad Research Day. Here’s everything we currently know about the forthcoming event.

Date + Time

Pokemon GO’s Bug Out! event will begin on April 2, 2019 at 1 PM and run through April 9, 2019 at 1 PM.

Features

  • Bug-type Pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild. This should include most, if not all, of the following: Caterpie, Weedle, Paras, Venonat, Scyther, Pinsir, Ledyba, Spinarak, Yanma, Wurmple, Volbeat, Illumise, Anorith, Kricketot, Combee, Shuckle, and Pineco.
  • Incense will last twice as long, meaning that these items will last 60 minutes instead of 30.
  • When using an incense, more Pokemon will also appear as a result.

Field Research

This event will feature limited-time Pokemon GO Field Research tasks in conjunction with April’s Field Research tasks. Completing these tasks will help get candy from the event, but also help players toward their April Field Research Breakthrough, with April likely to be incredibly similar to March. These new tasks have yet to be revealed, but based on previous events, players can expect 4-5 new tasks involving Bug-type Pokemon with 2-3 field encounter rewards featuring Bug-type Pokemon.

2018 was a big year for Pokemon GO, and it seems as if 2019 is off to a strong start. These events help to bring the community together, and while the popularity of the event varies from one to another, the success of Pokemon GO is something all players of the mobile ARG can hope for.

Pokemon GO is out now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
