Although most Pokemon GO trainers are currently busy working through the ongoing Team GO Rocket and defeating all of the Team GO Rocket bosses, the next big event season for the mobile AR game is right around the corner. Halloween is always one of the biggest events of the year for the PoGO community and this year won’t be any different. There’s a lot of excitement coming over the next few weeks and Niantic just shared some additional details about what to expect.

Obviously Mega Gengar evolutions are going to be a big part of the Halloween events, but that is the only reason to login during the final weeks of October. In addition to some of the other bonuses and features already announced, Niantic also just confirmed a brand new Catch Mastery: Ghost event coming to Pokemon GO.

The Catch Mastery: Ghost event takes place during most of the day on October 25 and will offer some event spawns, additional experience opportunities, and the chance to catch a special shiny Pokemon. All of the details about the upcoming event are now available and can be found right here.

Event Description

Halloween is right around the corner, and Ghost-type Pokémon will be appearing more often! It’s time to put your catching skills to the test during the Catch Mastery: Ghost event!

Date and Time

Sunday, October 25, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time

Event Features

Drifloon will be appearing more often in the wild! If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny one.

There will be exclusive Timed Research available only during this event!

Complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks to encounter Ghost-type Pokémon and earn Gengar Mega Energy.

Event Bonuses

During this event, you’ll earn additional XP when catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, Excellent, and Curveball Throws.

The event is short, but the opportunity to catch a rare shiny will certainly be enough to get most players interested. Drifloon isn’t the most popular Ghost-type Pokemon, but lots of players are very dedicated to their shiny dex, so they will want to take advantage of this opportunity even if the catch won’t be super important to the Pokemon GO PvE or PvP metagame.

In addition to the shiny opportunity, many players may also be drawn to the day-long event due to the Timed Research. Research storylines usually offer some exciting rewards along the way, so any player who is active on October 25 should take the time to work through the limited storyline and see what sort of encounter and item rewards it has at the end of the chain.

For now, Pokemon GO trainers should be able to head out into the world (or play from home) and continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
