Pokemon GO Cliff Counter Guide (December 2019 Update)

Pokemon GO has been throwing tons of updates and events at trainers this month and it’s understandable if players feel a little overwhelmed by all the changes. Somewhere between the improved Buddy System update and this week’s Regice Raid Day, Niantic also updated the Team GO Rocket Leader lineups. That means there are some new Shadow Pokemon to take down.

Players have likely already faced off against Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra; but now is a perfect time for a rematch since all three bosses have new rosters of Pokemon. Pokemon GO trainers should definitely take a bit of time before the match to study the new opponents and form the perfect team for the fight.

When facing off against Cliff, players have a pretty interesting mix of Pokemon to battle. Here’s a list of all the possible Pokemon that Cliff might throw out during the fight:

First Pokemon: Stantler

Second Pokemon: Marowak / Onyx / Electawire

Third Pokemon: Tyranitar / Swampert / Torterra

There are lots of options for counters against Cliff, but this is our recommendation for the perfect roster…

Recommended Roster

Giratina – Dragonbreath/Dragon Claw

Kyogre – Waterfall/Surf

Moltres – Fire Spin/ Sky Attack

Articuno – Ice Shard/Ice Beam

Torterra – Razor Leaf/Sand Tomb

Lucario – Counter/Power Up Punch

Although that is the ideal roster that should be able to handle whichever team Cliff tosses out during the big fight, there are obviously lots of other substitutes that can do the trick. Other Pokemon worth considering include Lugia, Leafeon, and Heatran.

For now, players may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
