Harry Potter: Wizard’s Unite is supposedly the next project that Niantic will release. According to TechCrunch, the new mobile AR game is slated for a 2018 launch. There aren’t many other details available at this point, but the report claims that the game will borrow source data from Ingress, similar to the way Pokemon GO does, to populate some kind of map that players will interact with.

The idea of Niantic working on another game while Pokemon GO is still plagued by bugs and missing features sounds a bit crazy, but it’s not surprising to see the company attempting to extend its hold on the market of mobile AR games. Pokemon GO has been incredibly successful and a big financial win for Niantic, so it will be interesting to see if the developer is able to pull that off again with the wizarding universe of Harry Potter and friends.
