Pokemon Go’s Lunar Raids are coming to an end in just a few days, meaning that the odds of encountering a Cresselia in are about to go way down. Raids are always tough, but this one in particular can be a real wake-up call for trainers who are unprepared or don’t have many people to team up with. However, with some good intel, strategy, and preparation, it’s possible to build your team in such a way that you can counter pretty much all of Cresselia’s moves.

So, if you want to make sure you catch yourself a Cresselia before Lunar Raids end, this Cresselia counters guide will be a lifesaver.

How To Counter And Beat Cresselia In Pokemon GO

Cresselia is a Psychic-type Pokémon, meaning that most of its moves will be that same type. Psychic-types are weak to Dark-, Ghost-, and Bug-types, and are resistant to Psychic and Fighting moves.

Cresselia Moves

Cresselia has two fast moves: Psycho Cut and Confusion. These moves are least effective against Dark-type Pokémon, so be sure to bring some of them to the fight.

In terms of charged moves, Cresselia has Future Sight, which Dark-types also happen to rest. Cresselia also has the potential to know Moon Blast and Aurora Beam, which are least effective against Fire, Poison, and Steel, and Water, Fire, Steel, and Ice, respectively.

Best Cresselia Counters

Based on Cresselia’s move set — plus its weakness to Dark-type moves — almost all the best counter choices are Dark-type. However, there are also some Ghost and Bug types that can do the job pretty well.

Weavile is a strong choice as a Dark and Ice type Pokemon that can learn a bunch of different Dark type moves, the best of which are probably Snarl and Foul Play. The main downside to Weavile is its relatively low defense stat, though its considerably high attack can make up for it.

Second on your team should be a Chandelure, a Ghost and Fire type. This is a much tougher Pokemon than Weavile, and excels as a second or third Pokemon drafted in to finish off a softened up Cresselia. Chandelure has even better attack than Weavile, higher defense, and can capitalize on Cresselia’s weaknesses with moves like Hex and Shadow Ball.

Last up should be the Legendary Dark-type, Darkrai — if you’re fortunate enough to have one on your team, that is. This is probably the best individual Pokemon to counter Cresselia in the entire game. Darkrai packs a massive attack stat, incredible defense, and will hit like a truck with Snarl and Dark Pulse.

If you’re lacking Darkrai, or any of the other best counters listed here, a few alternatives are:

Mewtwo – With Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball.

Houndoom – With Snarl and Foul Play.

Hydreigon – With Bite and Dark Pulse.

Just like with all the previous Legendary Pokémon featured in Raids, you have a 1 in 20 chance of encountering a shiny version of Cresselia, which is far better than the normal 1 in 450 odds of capturing a shiny in the wild.
