Players of Pokémon GO have been left confused following news that the mobile AR game is collaborating with award-winning singer, Ed Sheeran. The Pokémon brand has joined forces with a number of musical icons this year thanks to the recent launch of star-studded musical tribute Pokémon 25: The Album, but the announcement of Pokémon GO teaming up with Sheeran hasn’t been well-received by the game’s fans.
Pokémon GO is known for its large-scale community events and special promotions, which have often seen in-game tie-in content used to commemorate holidays and even other Pokémon-related releases. This year GO players enjoyed in-game content to celebrate the launch of the most recent Pokémon movie, Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, which landed on Netflix earlier this year, but that’s not the only franchise tie-in. In recognition of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, out this Friday, the mobile game is now running the Pokémon GO Diamond and Pearl Celebration Event. Beginning today, November 16, and ending on November 21, the event will see Sinnoh Pokémon appear in the wild more often.
Both Ed Sheeran and Pokémon GO announced news of their collaboration on social media, and early fan reactions aren’t positive.
