During Pokémon GO Fest 2020, players could unlock three special weeks of content: Dragon Week, Enigma Week and Unova Week. The latter is happening now and brings with it new Pokémon and tons of bonus content.
New Pokémon introduced for Unova Week — which celebrates the Unova region, naturally — include Sewaddle, Cottonee, Emolga, Boufallant (only in New York City) and the mythical Pokémon Genesect. Only Sewaddle and Cottonee have evolutions: Sewaddle>Swadloon>Leavanny and Cottonee>Whimsiccott.
Additionally, Unova Week in Pokémon GO introduces new shiny forms, as well as shiny Gensect and shiny Roggenrola.
Pokémon hailing from Unova spawn more frequently this week: Sewaddle, Cottonee, Emolga, Bouffalant, Blitzle, Lillipup, Purrloin, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Dwebble, Karrablast, Roggenrola, Patrat and Shelmet. Of the Unova Pokémon released prior to this week, four spawned rarely in the wild: Blitzle, Dwebble, Roggenrola and Karrablast. Players should expect to see them more often through Friday, Aug. 21. These Pokémon will appear in 7km eggs, as well.
The Raid bosses have also been adjusted. The tiers for Unova Week are as follows:
- Tier 1: Cottonee, Timburr, Petilil, Klink, Dwebble
- Tier 2: Stunfisk, Roggenrola, Darumaka, Ferroseed, Whirlipede
- Tier 3: Liepard, Palpitoad, Amoonguss
- Tier 4: Stoutland, Garbodor, Marowark (Alolan version)
- Tier 5: Genesect
During Pokémon GO Fest 2020, which took place in July, there were 34 global challenges players needed to complete to unlock all three weeks of bonus content. These ranged from collectively battling in 560 thousand Raids to sending a certain number of gifts to friends — and each had to be completed within an hour.
A different task was introduced each hour to coincide with the different rotating habitats that happened during the day: Fire, water, grass, battle and friendship, with each habitat repeating in that cycle. Due to an outage that made it impossible for players to access their friend list — if they could open the game at all — a makeup event was held on Aug. 16.
The first to be unlocked was Dragon Week, which featured Alolan Exeggutor, Horsea, Dratini, Bagon, Trapinch, Swablu and Gible spawning in the wild and Rayquaza in five-star Raids. It also introduced a shiny form to the dragon Pokémon Deino.
The second was Enigma Week, which featured some of the more mysterious Pokémon like Elgyem, Unown and Deoxys. It also featured Staryu, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Lunatone, Solrock, Baltoy, Bronzor and Elgyem spawning more in the wild, with Deoxys in five-star Raids. Shiny forms for Deoxys and Staryu were introduced as well.
