Pokemon GO Everything We Know About Reaching Level 50

A new era of Pokemon GO is about to start as the GO Beyond update prepares to increase the game’s level cap from 40 to 50. The same level cap has been in place since the day the mobile AR experience launched back in 2016, so this is a massive change. Reaching level 40 in the game is a massive accomplishment and requires an insane amount of XP grinding and hours put into the game. As players may have expected, reaching the new level cap is going to present even more of a challenge.

Getting to level 40 was all about learning how to maximize experience boosts, use Lucky Eggs wisely, and staying consistent throughout the game’s grind. Those skills are all still going to be a part of reaching each level from 41 through 50, but there will be even more to the grind this time around. Each level after 40 will now require players to complete a series of challenges (tasks) to prove their skills. There are a variety of these tasks coming that will test Pokemon GO trainers stills in different areas.

Game Rant recently attended a press event with Niantic where a team of the game’s representatives shared a lot of details about the upcoming level cap increase. Some examples of level up skill challenges that were mentioned included making excellent throws (no surprise there), earning Gold badges, or even evolving every one of Eevee’s available evolution. In addition to completing the skill challenges that are required for each level, there will still be experience point requirements, as well.

Legacy trainers who reach level 40 already and have been stocking up XP can rest assured that any existing XP collected about the level 40 requirement will carry over towards addition level requirements. That means that if a player already happens to have the XP needed to reach level 41 when GO Beyond releases, all they’ll have to do is complete the level 41 skill challenges in order to level up.

“Pokémon GO will also be introducing Candy XL. These Candies will be required to power up Pokémon to even higher CP than was previously possible, and can be acquired either by catching Pokémon or by converting and combining Candy into Candy XL. There will also be other ways to obtain Candy XL, so stay tuned!

“Keep an eye out for special Timed Research to complete in December to help you level up! And for those of you working on pushing past level 40, why not give your fellow Trainers a hand as they try to reach level 40 themselves? There’ll be tons of opportunities for everyone to earn XP throughout November and December—like during the 12 Days of Friendship event! Learn more about this event [here]((11/18) 12 Days of Friendship).”

The experience required to get from level 1-40 has not changed at all, but there will be some special events arriving in the near future to help players grind through whichever level they are stuck on. The upcoming bonus XP events should act as motivation to bring players back to the game and help players who want to reach level 40 before the end of the 2020 to earn Legacy Trainer status and unlock some special cosmetic rewards like an amazing Gyarados Hat for their trainer.

As trainers continue working through these amazing events and waiting for the GO Beyond update to officially arrive, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
