The Pokemon GO Fest Puzzle has come to an end, but the results have upset many players. In response to the official Twitter account, many claim to have entered the code in as little as 30 seconds after the final GO Fest Puzzle clue went live only to receive an error saying all the codes were redeemed.
For those that chose not to bother with the Pokemon GO Fest Puzzle, Niantic was dropping little clues each day to test player knowledge of the history of the game. On this 13th and final day, the puzzle was completed and hordes of players went to redeem the code. Unfortunately, most were met with an error message and left feeling disappointed.
The issue stems from the Pokemon GO Fest reward being limited to only a certain number of people. It’s unclear how many were able to get the code, but so far only one person has stepped forward to show the rewards they allegedly won for entering the code quick enough.
The image shows what one user claims are the rewards for redeeming the code on time. It looks as though players that were quick enough would be rewarded with two Premium Raid Passes, two Super Egg Incubators, two Incense, two Star Pieces, 30 PokeBalls, 10 Hyper Potions, and two Lucky Eggs. While these rewards are pretty impressive, it is all consumable items and so few players were given the chance to get it. As a consolation of sorts, Niantic gave out a second code which would be available to everyone and granted 10 Ultra Balls, 10 Max Potions, and a Sinnoh Stone.
There are a couple theories as to why this could have happened. The first and most plausible theory is that the code was only available to an extremely small number of people. Given that millions of users are active daily on Pokemon GO, one would think there’d be a lot slots available, though. The next theory is that many people guessed the final letter in the code before the clue was available, taking up all the uses before the code was out in the open. The final theory is that Niantic never planned on giving out any rewards for this code, though some see this as extreme.
Regardless of why this happened, Niantic is certainly in some hot water with its player base right now. It’s unfortunate that the Pokemon GO Fest Puzzle actually managed to engage such a large group of players only to let them down by denying them any sort of reward.
