It took a bit longer than usual, but Niantic has finally confirmed the details for Pokemon GO’s February 2019 Community Day event. Taking place on February 16, the February 2019 Community Day event for Pokemon GO will feature the second generation ice- and ground-type Pokemon Swinub, and while that may not sound too exciting on the surface, it may end up being one of the biggest Community Days yet.

That’s because the Swinub Community Day in Pokemon GO is set to add a new Pokemon to the game. The Gen 4 Pokemon Mamoswine, the fully-evolved form of Swinub, will finally be added to Pokemon GO on February 16 as part of the Community Day celebrations. Like other Gen 4 evolutions, Pokemon GO players will have to collect a Sinnoh Stone if they want to add Mamoswine to their roster, but that will be much easier to do on Community Day.

This time around, Community Day will have an extra bonus where players can earn up to five Sinnoh Stones. To do this, they simply have to use the recently added PvP mechanics and battle other trainers for a chance at getting a Sinnoh Stone as a reward. Some people online seem to be under the impression that Mamoswine will only be obtainable during the Community Day’s three hour window, but the language in the Pokemon GO app suggests that a Mamoswine with an exclusive move will only be available during Community Day. Presumably, players will still be able to evolve Piloswine into Mamoswine even after the Community Day event ends.

Besides the Sinnoh Stones, the rest of the February Community Day bonuses are pretty much par for the course and should be familiar to anyone that has participated in past Community Day events. The event will include three hour lures, a highly increased chance to catch the shiny variant for Swinub, and 3x Stardust.

Considering all the possible rewards players can get, not to mention the first chance to add a Mamoswine to their roster, some Pokemon GO players may be willing to brave the potentially cold weather to get the most out of the February 16 Community Day event.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
