Pokemon GO Fest 2020 Makeup Event Date and Details

Pokemon GO players recently celebrated an entirely virtual GO Fest 2020, but some paying fans were left upset by technical hitches throughout the weekend. To make up for this, Niantic has announced a GO Fest 2020 makeup event, set to take place next week.

The makeup event will take place on August 16, 2020, from 11 AM – 2 PM (local time), and will allow Pokemon GO users who purchased a GO Fest 2020 ticket to revisit some of the event bonuses. The main feature of the makeup event is the inclusion of three “habitat blocks” from this year’s GO Fest, though players will also receive a free box of in-game items and some other small perks.

The actual GO Fest 2020 featured many different Pokemon habitats, three of which will be returning for the makeup event. Hopefully, this time around, there’s less lag plaguing the Pokemon event. Pokemon Trainers who purchased a GO Fest 2020 ticket can expect the following three habitats from 11 AM – 2 PM:

  • 11 AM – Fire
  • 12 PM – Water
  • 1 PM – Friendship

Trainers should look out for rarities like Clamperl during the water hour, Litwick during the fire hour, and the now-possibly-Shiny Jigglypuff during friendship hour. That said, some featured Pokemon “will appear only when attracted by Incense”, so players will have to use an Incense to maximize their experience. Thankfully, Incense used during the makeup event will be “more effective at attracting featured Pokemon” and will last one hour as well.

Aside from the above-listed habitat hours and bonuses, players with a paid GO Fest 2020 ticket will also receive Rare Candies from gifts opened during the makeup event and a special free box from the in-game shop. The special box will feature two Incense and two of the recently added Remote Raid Passes, but please note, players can only claim the special free box if they have fewer than three Remote Raid Passes in their inventory. And again, none of these bonuses will be available unless a player already purchased a GO Fest 2020 ticket.

Given the relative success of this year’s revamped GO Fest, Pokemon GO players can probably expect changes in the format of next year’s events. If global conditions allow it, live events will surely resurface next year, but given Pokemon’s expansive global fanbase, fans would surely appreciate events as accessible as this year’s GO Fest.

Without the added pressure of a literal pandemic, Niantic will surely be able to fine-tune these events into the AR extravaganzas fans have always expected. And with whispers of Mega Evolutions coming soon to Pokemon GO, there’s ample opportunity for unique events to showcase any new features.

Pokemon GO is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
