This July, Pokémon GO Fest 2021 will include a seven new Shiny Pokémon, a lower $5 ticket price, and a festive musical theme. Since the game is marking two important anniversaries this summer (both Pokémon GO’s fifth anniversary and 25 years of the Pokémon franchise), the two-day digital event will be handing out unique rewards, chances to encounter Mythical Pokémon, and more.

Niantic previously announced the Pokémon GO Fest 2021 dates back in April, setting the digital event for July 17 – 18. Even though the Pokémon GO studio was quiet on the event’s contents, Niantic promised it would be a bash worthy of the year’s momentous occasion. Since its debut in 2017, the annual Pokémon GO Fest has remained the mobile ARG’s biggest event. However, it grew even greater in scale in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns. Previously, the festival had been set in a given in person location, but Pokémon GO Fest 2020 was made available for fans to play around the globe from the comfort of their homes. Now, Pokémon GO Fest 2021 is set to follow suit.

Previous years’ Pokémon GO Fest tickets cost players $15 to fully participate, but developer Niantic announces that the music festival-themed Pokémon GO Fest 2021 will be $5 in honor of the game turning five years old. The event will run from 10 AM to 6 PM local time on July 17 – 18 with Special Research and more being reserved for ticketholder, but all players can participate. Anyone can delve into Saturday’s hourly habitat event, which will give players a short time to catch creatures from highlighted biomes. Meanwhile, Raids will include Galarian Ponyta and Galarian Zigzagoon, both of whom will be dressed up in “special costumes” for the occasion. Owing to the event’s theme, more rhythmically inclined Pokémon (including dolled-up Rock Star and Pop Star Pikachu) will be out and about, and all players will get a chance to catch Shiny Whismur, Chimecho, Audino, and Tympole for the first time.

🎶 This year, Pokémon GO Fest is a music festival, and you’re the show director! 🎶 Here are the details of this year’s massive music-themed event. Get ready for an exciting musical adventure, Trainers! #PokemonGOFest2021 https://t.co/FXN04wYD15 pic.twitter.com/mnoOwpqfxh

While everyone is welcome to celebrate, Niantic has a few special pieces of content reserved for Pokémon GO Fest 2021 ticketholders. One of the highlights of these include this year’s exclusive Special Research task which will task players with helping set up the day’s musical festivities and will reward trainers with unique avatar prizes and the chance to capture a Mythical Pokémon. Also open specifically to those with the $5 pass will be the Global Challenge Arena, Collection Challenges during each habitat hour, 10,000 more XP in Sunday raid battles, and greater odds of catching Shiny Pokémon. That last bonus comes in addition to access to three more Shinies new to the game, Unown F, Throh, and Sawk, bringing the event Shiny total up to seven.

The Pokémon GO Fest 2021 festivities seem like they’ll make for a memorable bash, but it might also be a bit tricky to handle. This is only the second year the big event Fest has been available to fans everywhere, and last year’s festivities had a few snags. However, Niantic did ultimately correct those mistakes by putting on a separate make up event.

This year’s Pokémon GO Fest sounds like its biggest to date and it is good to see that the festival will have things for all fans to do, ticketed or not. Niantic has had some trouble with big events like this in the past, but hopefully the studio will see everything run smoothly in July.
