The Festival of Lights event sees the first update to the Misunderstood Mischief special research quest this November.

Remember, completing Misunderstood Mischief in time – basically completing each step as and when it’s released – will grant you access to a special event occurring at the end of the Season of Mischief. If you’ve fallen behind on this special research quest, we highly recommend making the time to catch up to ensure you don’t miss out.

According to the official Pokémon Go blog, there will be one more update to this quest in November as the Season of Mischief draws to a close.

Field research tasks for Festival of Lights in Pokémon Go

Throughout the Festival of Lights in Pokémon Go, there’s a small selection of event exclusive field research tasks for you to collect by spinning PokéStops. These tasks will remain in your field research collection and can be completed after the event itself ends.

Keep in mind though – you can only collect the Festival of Lights research tasks during the event itself.

Here are the Festival of Lights field research tasks:


  • Catch 5 Electric-type Pokémon reward – Electrike or Magnemite encounter
  • Catch 5 different species of Electric-type Pokémon reward – Blitzle encounter
  • Catch 5 Fire-type Pokémon reward – Vulpix or Litleo encounter
  • Send 5 Gifts to friends reward – Electabuzz or Magmar encounter
  • Send 7 Gifts to friends reward – Darumaka encounter
  • Defeat 2 Team Go Rocket Grunts reward – Blitzle encounter
  • Power up Pokémon 10 times reward – Dedenne encounter
  • Walk 1 km reward – 10 Poké Balls or 10 Great Balls

The Festival of Lights is the perfect time to send gifts to your friends in Pokémon Go – the amount of gifts you can send has been increased to 45 per day, you’ll receive more rewards from opening rewards and progress for friendship levels has been doubled. If you’re close to becoming Best Friends with another trainer, then the Festival of Lights might help you achieve this goal!

The other main attraction of the Festival of Lights is the release of Dedenne – an electric and fairy-type Pokémon from Gen 6. You can find Dedenne in the wild and in one-star raids.

Charmander, Vulpix, Chinchou and Litwick are also appearing in one-star raids, while the three-star lineup includes Electabuzz, Magmar, Bellossom and Alolan Raichu.

Meanwhile, Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion are returning to five-star raids and, if you catch them during this event, they will each know the fighting-type charged attack, Sacred Sword. Mega Manectric has also taken over mega raids.

In keeping with the Festival of Lights theme, a range of electric and fire-type Pokémon are appearing in the wild alongside Dedenne. Keep your eyes open for Vulipx, Magnemite, Electabuzz, Magmar, Electrike, Blitzle, Darumkaka and Litleo.

Any 7km eggs collected during the Festival of Lights will also have a special egg pool in celebration of the event.

This pool, organised by tier, is as follows:

Tier One:

  • Chinchou
  • Pichu
  • Alolan Geodude

Tier Two:

  • Vulpix

Tier Three:

  • Magby
  • Elekid

Tier Four:

  • Budew

Finally, Pokémon Go players in India will enjoy additional rewards between 4pm to 7pm (local time) on Sunday, 7th November. This includes double catch candy and both Blitzle and Dedenne appearing more frequently in the wild.

April 2022 introduces the Silent Schemes event, which requires learning new Leader counters and Giovanni counters. Elsewhere, we’ve recently seen new Ditto disguises as part of the Season of Alola, which also introduced An Akala Adventure and more Gen 7 Pokémon including Fomantis and Tapu Lele. Elsewhere, off the back of the Go Tour Johto event is Masterwork Research Apex to complete.

Festival of Lights date and times in Pokémon Go explained

The Festival of Lights event in Pokémon Go will run from Friday, 5th November to Sunday, 14th November, ending at 8pm (local time).

Remember, if you live in India, then you’ll enjoy additional bonuses on Sunday, 7th November from between 4pm to 7pm (local time).
