Pokémon Go’s “A Very Slow Discovery” event has kicked off, allowing players to catch Galarian Slowpoke and obtain new themed items for the duration.

New details for the upcoming “A Very Slow Discovery” event for Pokémon GO have been revealed, along with the start date. Plenty of free goodies will be offered to players who log in during the event, along with the chance to catch new Pokémon. A Very Slow Discovery is part of the larger, ongoing “Season of Discovery” event for Pokémon Go’s fifth anniversary.
As the name suggests, A Very Slow Discovery focuses on the Generation I Pokémon, Slowpoke. While the original Kanto version of the Pokémon was in the game at launch, this event will mark the introduction of the Galarian variant. Mega Slowbro, introduced in Generation VI, will also be added to the game through Mega Raids. This, along with other events in June, was revealed in late May 2021.
The official Pokémon GO blog has announced the event will run from June 8th at 10 AM to June 13 at 8 PM (local time). During the event, new raids will be appearing, offering bonus Candy and Candy XL for completing. There will also be new Slowpoke-themed Gift stickers available at PokéStops and in the store. Other avatar items related to Slowpoke will be on offer to purchase.

For those who don’t wish to spend any money, there are some free challenges as well. Completing an event-exclusive Field Research mission will net the player some “very slow rewards.” A Collection Challenge is also on offer. If completed, the player will be rewarded with 30 Ultra Balls, 3,000 XP, and an exclusive avatar item to wear. A free gift box is in the shop, containing 10 Great Balls, 20 Pokéballs, and a King’s Rock. The latter is used when evolving Slowpoke to Slowking.
The blog also details how players can evolve their Galarian Slowpoke to Galarian Slowbro. Slowpoke must be the player’s Buddy while they catch 30 Poison-type Pokémon. Galarian Slowking will also be obtainable but is implied to be a rare encounter that may not show up until later in the event.
A Very Slow Discovery seems to be a solid start to a summer filled with activity for Pokémon GO. With the game’s fifth anniversary just around the corner, introducing fan-favorite Pokémon and more recent additions to the roster makes sense. The event-exclusive raids feature other Pokémon that are well-loved by the fanbase, such as Shinx and Toxicroak. Even if this particular event doesn’t appeal to someone, the rest of the Season of Discovery might pique their interest. Assuming, of course, Slowpoke’s event doesn’t move too slowly for them.
