The devious antics of Team GO Rocket have really shaken things up in Pokemon GO, but it appears the villainous group is about to take their plans to the next level. Team GO Rocket’s boss himself, Giovanni, has been spotted, casually making his menacing presence known by photobombing trainers at GO Fest.

Trainers have been busy dealing with an invasion by Team GO Rocket in Pokemon GO, purifying Shadow Pokemon and scaring off Grunts. It has been a troubling set of events, but trainers have been successful in their efforts, earning plenty of in-game rewards in the meantime. Unfortunately, it appears Team GO Rocket has more fiendish schemes in store.

While Pokemon GO trainers in Japan were celebrating their victories at GO Fest Yokohama, Giovanni, the leader of Team GO Rocket, has been photobombing attendees. He appears as a full 3D model, similar to how the Grunts appeared earlier this summer. If the format for the previous event is any indication, Giovanni will be making an appearance in Pokemon GO soon.

When players visited unusually-colored PokeStops during the invasion event, they could challenge a Team GO Rocket Grunt that would appear. The Grunt would take off, leaving behind a Shadow Pokemon that players could attempt to capture. But only after it had been purified. Giovanni may do something similar. Since he is their leader, he will have access to very powerful Pokemon, which opens up a lot of possibilities.

GO Fest Yokoyama may be limited to those in Japan, but trainers worldwide can still get into the festivities — at least, in part. During the event, from August 6 to August 12, players everywhere will be able to capture a Shiny Poliwag. Additionally, the spawn rates for Poliwags have increased across the globe. What’s more, this means that Shiny versions of Poliwag’s evolutions – Poliwhirl, Polywrath, and Politoed – will be available for the first time.

Also occurring at this moment is the summer gift event, which began on August 5 and will last until August 19. During this time, players will have the opportunity to hatch a Shiny Bonsly, which can evolve into a shiny Sudowoodo. There are a bunch of changes being implemented as well, such as the ability to hatch 7-kilometer egg Pokemon from 2-km eggs that drop. Players have also had their inventory caps raised and are able to send move gifts each day.

Pokemon GO is currently available in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
