Pokemon GO Has New Regional Exclusives

Today has been a good day for Pokémon GO fans, as Niantic has added an extensive list of gen 3 Pokémon to the game. Some of these Pokémon, however, are not as simple to find as others. While the list contains some impressive Pokémon such as Metagross and Salamence, it also contains Pokémon exclusive to a specific region, namely Illumise, Volbeat, and Tropius.

Since Illumise and Volbeat are a pair of related Pokémon like Zangoose and Seviper, it should be no surprise that they appear in totally different regions. Illumise can be found in North America, South America, and Africa, whereas Volbeat can be found in Europe, Asia, and Australia. It is worth mentioning, however, that pairs like these (Zangoose/Seviper and Solrock/Lunatone) have swapped locations in the past, so it could possibly occur with this pair.

Another region-exclusive Pokémon GO addition is a little harder to track down. Tropius, the grass/flying Pokémon, has been found in several parts of Africa, southern parts of Spain, the island of Crete, and possibly parts of Greece. It stands to reason that Tropius could appear near tropical jungles, but this is speculation. Niantic may hopefully nail down Tropius’ regional boundaries soon.

With these new additions, rumors spread quickly (such as the addition of new Unown forms that joined the core games in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire), and one of these rumors is that Chimecho, the psychic-type Pokémon, is exclusive to Japan. Reportedly, this rumor is untrue, as Pokémon GO players have found this Chimecho all over the world; it may just be extremely rare and hard to find.

These new region-exclusive Pokémon join Torkoal, Relicanth, Plusle, Minun, and the aforementioned Pokémon as gen 3 exclusives on the regional list, but another exciting addition to Pokemon GO is Rayquaza, the dragon/flying-type legendary Pokemon. Unlike the Pokémon bound to specific regions, Rayquaza is only available for a limited time; however, with the latest gen 3 additions to the game, there is plenty of Pokémon to go around. Good luck, Pokémon trainers!
