To celebrate Pokémon’s 25th anniversary and the fifth anniversary of Pokémon GO, the game will have a brand new event for players. On Saturday, Feb. 20, trainers can participate in Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto, which will celebrate Pokémon originally discovered in that region, in several cool ways.

The Kanto event is fast approaching, and players will have tons to keep them busy on that day. However, they can prepare, plan and strategize right now to eliminate potential event stressors and take advantage of everything that’s on offer. Being prepared will greatly enhance players’ experience, and it may even help them collect all 150 Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region.

Tagging Pokémon

One of the relatively new features of Pokémon GO allows players to create various tags to assign to their Pokémon. If trainers hope to get all 150 Pokémon from the Kanto region, they will have to catch what they can, then trade and evolve others.

There are two strategies here. The first is saving high percentage Pokémon players plan to evolve regardless, and simply wayt to evolve them during the Kanto event. The second is saving Kanto Pokémon that already have tons of candies, like Pidgey or Rattata, to evolve and then transfer to simply get that collection counted. These strategies may not work with all Pokémon, since they won’t all be available for the event, but they will still shorten the to-do list. Players can simple tag these Pokémon as “Kanto” to have them ready to evolve, come event time.

Pokémon GO Items and Inventory

Since the focus of Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto is to catch 150 Pokémon, trainers will need to ensure they have enough PokeBalls, as well as enough inventory space. Stocking up ahead of time will save precious time on event day, or trainers can play in an area where there are tons of PokéStops to pick up necessary items.

Pokémon inventory space is also a big priority. Although trainers likely won’t keep every Pokémon they catch during the event, they should still make sure they have enough inventory space to catch as many as they can without having to stop, sort and transfer unwanted Pokémon. Players do have the option of purchasing more storage space, but that can add up quick.

Additionally, players will want to stock up on candies for hard to find Pokémon from the Kanto region, as well as Shiny Pokémon.

Make a Plan and Set Realistic Goals

Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto will last for a full 12 hours, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time. Players will need to eat, rest and charge their devices. Having a plan in place will help ensure they get the most out of the event, without sacrificing necessary self-care during it. There is no right way to play, and some players may pick up the game for a couple hours while others may play for much longer, but breaks are important.

To that end, players should also set goals ahead of time. They should decide how many Pokémon they want to catch on the day of the event, versus how many they want to catch in the following week. Players who are trading with friends should coordinate, as well. Since the event is available in a Red version and a Green version, and Pokémon spawning in each will differ, this will affect how many Pokémon players are able to acquire.
