Pokemon Go How to Catch a Cubone for Meltan Special Research

If players weren’t able to reach the special research task and catch a Cubone during the Let’s Go event in Pokemon GO, they may consider themselves out of luck right now. Since the creature is vital to complete the Meltan Special Research, players may be trying to find him in the wild, where he is rare enough as is. Its spawn chance is also somewhat worsened with the winter event increasing the spawn rate of other wintry-based Pokemon.

Hope is not lost, however, as fans still have a reliable method for completing this task. Players will first want to make sure they are on quest step 7, which also requires players to evolve a Drowzee and a Scyther. The Let’s Go event made many of these Pokemon spawn, so these tasks should be relatively easy to complete. Other than getting completely lucky, the best way to currently catch Cubone in Pokemon GO is to, in fact, catch its evolved form, Marowak.

This is due to the fact that Alolan Marowak is currently a tier 4 raid boss in Pokemon GO’s raid rotation. For those not in the know, catching the evolved form of a Pokemon fulfills the requirement for its lesser form, much in the same way that a great or excellent throw will always count for a nice throw. This way, players just need to find an Alolan Marowak raid, defeat it, and catch it. This won’t likely be a walk in the park, but it is a much more efficient method than hoping to get lucky in the wild.

Of course, as a tier 4 raid boss, Pokemon GO players will want to go with friends. A group of three should be able to beat the Alolan Marowak, but the more, the merrier. Having a good team of counters will also be beneficial, so check out our guide to countering Alolan Marowak.

All things considered, those currently stuck on this step will also have a lot of trouble with the next. It requires players to catch an Aerodactyl and a few fossil Pokemon, which are as rare if not more than Cubone. Be sure to stay tuned as more tips and tricks become available.
