Pokémon GO How To Find A GhostType

Ghost-type Pokémon are some of the trickiest to find in Pokémon GO. Here are a few tips and tricks to increase a trainer’s chances of happening upon them.

Pokémon GO is in the middle of a string of throwback events celebrating various regions from Pokémon’s past. Week one allowed trainers to revisit Kanto, week two was all about the Johto region, and this week is dedicated to Hoenn. Each event comes with nine levels of field research which when completed, results in an array of different encounters and rewards.

Some of the tasks are easier to complete than others. For example, the first task in all three events has been to catch three grass, fire, or water-type Pokémon. Since the three starters from each region have been spawning far more frequently during their respective events, that particular task has been very easy to complete each week.

Some of the other tasks that require trainers to catch a certain type have not been so easy — for example, catching a ghost-type during stage seven of the Hoenn throwback event wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. There are a few ghost-types to be found in Hoenn, but they don’t exactly appear frequently in Pokémon GO. There are some tricks and tips trainers can employ to up their chances of finding and catching a ghost-type though, whether it be this week or at any time moving forward.

The best way is to head out at night, so between 8 pm and 8 am local time. Ghost-type appearances tend to peak around 2 am. Heading out into the night with your phone isn’t the best idea during the best of times, but that’s especially true right now. The only time ghost-types appear in the wild more frequently during the day is during foggy weather, which is hard to come by in most parts of the world at this time of year.

During the Hoenn event, while staying in and social distancing, the easiest way to catch a ghost-type Pokémon is to rely on one popping up in a nearby raid. Banette has been appearing in three-star raids which are just about beatable alone, but there are also one-star raids featuring Duskull and Shuppet to be on the lookout for. Our only other advice would be to keep revisiting a nest nearby if you know of one as it may switch to a ghost-type nest.
