Many Pokemon fans have been enjoying the latest Pokemon game which was released on Nintendo Switch , Pokemon Let’s Go. As part of an ongoing celebration of Pokemon Let’s Go, Pokemon Go added Shiny Alolan Raichu to the game over the weekend. In addition, Pokemon Go has also added the regular Raichu and various Eeveelutions as Raid Bosses in order to promote the new Nintendo Switch Pokemon games.

As seen in the tweet below, the sought-after Shiny Alolan Raichu has slightly darker fur than the normal Alolan Raichu, as well as dark gold ears and a golden tail. The Alolan Raichu is an Electric/Psychic-type Pokemon that was first introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon and it can only be found in the Alola region. Alolan Raichu can also be evolved from Pikachu with an evolution stone in the Alolan region, and its special ability is to “surf” on its tail using its Psychic abilities.

Unlike most other Shiny Pokemon though, the Shiny Alolan Raichu can only be encountered as a Pokemon GO Raid Boss, so some players may have a hard time acquiring this rare Pokemon. Shiny Alolan Raichu has been a Level 3 Raid Boss for some time now and cannot currently be found in the wild like other Shiny Pokemon. While the Alolan Raichu is a “soloable” raid boss, it will require an optimized team to beat.

To complicate things even more, the non-Alolan version of Raichu is also available as a Raid Boss. Some players have recently reported that the non-Alolan Raichu will appear in the catch screen even when the Raid Boss is an Alolan Raichu, which will make the Shiny Alolan Raichu even more difficult to acquire. Players will be happy to know though that once a Shiny Pokemon appears in Pokemon GO, it is a permanent addition to the game, so players do not have to worry about a time limit to catch this new rare Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is currently available in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
