Pokemon Go has been a huge success as the mobile game has enabled players to search for and catch Pokemon for themselves. The game initially encouraged players to explore their surrounding area but Pokemon Go has managed to adapt to the challenges of COVID-19 and the title is still doing well despite a global pandemic. However, despite the success of the title issues have now begun to surface and iPhone users are now facing soft bans but the reason why does not appear to be clear.
The Pokemon franchise started in 1996 and has since been transferred to numerous mediums, yet Pokemon Go caught the attention of the gaming market because it allowed players to explore the real world and catch Pokemon. Four years since its release and Pokemon Go is still receiving frequent updates and generating events for players to take part in, yet its longevity has now added to the frustration of some players who are facing bans.
The soft bans appear to be impacting players who are using the iOS 12 operating system on their iPhone and it may be impacting “thousands” of players. It seems that the game believes that the players are modifying the software to give a false location and as a result, a seven-day soft ban is being implemented which prevents the catching of rare Pokemon. Many players have expressed their disappointment at this action after they have spent years building a Pokemon roster on the game. The team behind Pokemon Go, Niantic, now seems to be aware of the problem but there is no timeline for the resolution of this annoying issue.
Many will wonder how this issue has come to the game and whether it is connected to the updates that have made the title playable at home. Either way, players will hope this issue is resolved soon so that they can resume catching rare Pokemon. Furthermore, with Pokemon Go Fest arriving next month, the developer will likely want to resolve problems that may lead to players not taking part. With that in mind, players will hope that the issue is fixed quickly.
This issue will certainly hamper the experience of iPhone players and it will be interesting to see how Niantic address the issue. The initial response from fans has consisted of frustration at the situation, particularly as cheaters in Pokemon Go still exist. While players may be angry it seems that Niantic is aware of the issue and will be attempting to fix the issue promptly.
