Yesterday, Niantic revealed Professor Willow’s Global Challenge, which will task Pokemon GO players with completing Field Research quests throughout the summer months in exchange for special rewards. Along with that announcement, Niantic also revealed the next two Alolan Pokemon that will be making their way to the game, and when exactly they will be available.

According to Niantic, the next two Alolan Pokemon coming to Pokemon GO are Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude. They will make their first worldwide appearance while Pokemon GO Fest is taking place in Chicago, so they will first appear beginning July 14. Niantic advises that players shouldn’t “miss the chance” to catch Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude, implying that the Pokemon will have increased spawns during Pokemon GO Fest weekend and will then be harder to find after the event is over.

This would be in line with how Niantic handled Alolan Exeggutor, the first Alolan Pokemon that was added to Pokemon GO. Alolan Exeggutor was added to the game as a way to celebrate the reveal of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, and initially had a very high spawn rate. That spawn rate has since died down considerably, though some speculate that rainbows in the game could later influence the spawn rates of Alolan Pokemon.

When Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude are added to Pokemon GO, it’s probable that their evolved forms will be added to the game as well. This means players can potentially get their hands on Alolan Dugtrio, along with Alolan Graveler and Alolan Golem. Considering this, players may want to start hoarding their Geodude candy so they don’t miss out on all of the Alolan forms while they’re readily available.

In the meantime, some fans who only play Pokemon GO and aren’t all that familiar with Alolan forms may be wondering what types of Pokemon are Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude. Alolan Diglett and Alolan Dugtrio are ground/steel-type Pokemon, whereas Alolan Geodude and its evolved forms are all rock/electric-type Pokemon.

While Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude are the next Alolan Pokemon making their way to Pokemon GO, fans can expect the rest of the Alolan forms to release by the time Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee launch on November 16, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
