Pokémon Go Is the Galarian Mr Mime Ticket Worth the Price

There are plenty of new events coming to Pokémon Go in December, not least of all being the one introducing Galarian Mr.Mime. Along with introducing Galarian Mr.Mime, players will be introduced to a new evolution, Mr. Rime. Both Pokémon, which were originally discovered in the Galar region, are unique Ice/Psychic variations. While these are unique variations, the rewards aren’t worth the relatively steep cost required to participate.

During the event, which runs from Friday, December 18, 2020, to Monday, December 21, 2020, players gain access to the limited-time experience by purchasing an in-game ticket for $7.99. Once purchased, players must log in between Saturday, December 19, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, December 20, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. local time to receive the required Special Research Tasks. Completing these tasks will result in an encounter with Galarian Mr. Mime, as well as reward the player with enough Mr. Mime Candy to evolve into Mr. Rime.

In addition to Mr. Rime, these research encounters will see players running into Pokémon such as Alolan Vulpix, Jigglypuff, Chimecho and Snorunt. Players will also receive various rewards, including three Incense, three Rare Candies, 30 Ultra Balls, three Premium Battle Passes, one Poffin, two Glacial Lure Modules, three Super Incubators and three Star Pieces.

There is still plenty to do if you aren’t interested in buying in, though. Players who don’t have a ticket can still enjoy several features for the Galarian Mr. Mime Special Research story event, such as incense more frequently attracting Pokémon such as Jynx, Spoink, Woobat. The event will also mark the debut of Shiny Cubchoo. In addition to being more effective at attracting Pokémon, incense will last for three hours during the event.

Sadly, the rewards for this event do feel underwhelming, especially compared to Pokémon Go’s other offerings. The other currently on-going event, “Secrets of the Jungle,” is a free event that rewards players with a shiny Celebi. That reward feels leagues better than the paid event’s Mr. Mime, even if it is a unique variant. The ticketed event will net players mostly items and research encounters with Pokémon that have already been out in the wild for a while now, with Mr.Mime being the only exclusive Pokémon to the event.

Currently, the Special Research Event is the only way to encounter Galarian Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime. While they aren’t available anywhere else currently, this could change once the event concludes. Unless players really want to get that exclusive Pokémon early, they may be better off skipping the ticketed event. The $8 buy-in for the event is a bit on the steep side, and the rewards don’t feel worth it for even the most dedicated Pokémon Go players.
